"Iranian supreme leader calls 'American Sniper' anti-Islam proaganda"

Well he seems to be missing a P.

Way to tackle the tough topics. Picking on American Sniper is low hanging fruit.

ISIS is giving Muslims a bad name.

The book and movie were told without a lot of bias. The "supreme leader" should see the movie. He would probably agree with a lot of it. I doubt he would ever go to Fallujah or Sadr city because during the war, there were a lot of savages (ex-military, fundamentalists, tribal warfare, criminals, etc.) running around.

American Sniper (the movie) is more of the story of a husband and wife dealing with the husband's profession of killing, PTSD, and the husband having to choose between a profession he loves (which is literately killing him (PTSD, high blood pressure)), and a family that needs him home. It isn't an action packed military movie. It ditches a lot of the more noteworthy scenes in the book to explore the family angle and PTSD.

American Sniper (the book) has this family aspect of the story, but it is also a fairly well balanced and humble telling of a remarkable soldier. He does characterize the Muslims he encounters (mostly extremists) as savages, because they acted like savages, and he even calls a woman who pulls a pin on a grenade with her child present evil. I have heard other soldiers make the same comments after being face to face with militants and seeing the evil they do to each other.

It certainly was not propaganda. He equally criticizes his "headshed" (immediate superiors) and upper military policy makers who make decisions based on politics and play lip service to his advice that they asked for.

They have a center in Israel, but the religion was born in Persia, wasn't it?

Yes, you are correct. The Baha'i faith was indeed founded in Persia, but is now based in Haifa, Israel.

saying there was “no trace of aggression against non-Muslims by Muslims” since the advent of the Islamic republic in 1979.

What would you call the threat of wiping Israel off the map and supporting Hamas and Hezbollah in order to help see the threat realized? Love and kisses?

“That’s what they say about the film. I haven’t seen it myself,” he added.

"I may not be able to explain what bigotry is, but I know it when I don't see it."

A bit late to the party, your Befrockedness. JT conservatives issued a fatwah against (non-con) infidels when it was first screened.

Sounds like a fabulous movie about an American who killed 160 people, presumably most Iraqis, presumably most Muslims, in Iraq. And then this person and his friend get killed by a Marine at a shooting range in Texas. And then it becomes a Hollywood blockbuster and is shown in movie theaters around the world. Oh, what wonders the US brings us...

Anti religious propaganda? I got no probs with that folks. On to the future!

A geriatric, senile theocrat objecting to a movie he hadn't seen directed by a geriatric, senile rightwinger given to holding conversations with empty chairs. Quite the story.

Jimizo - Clint may be old, but he ain't senile yet.

My God, Iran says "American Sniper" is "anti-Islam propaganda" and folks in Japan say "Unbroken" is rascist. Please, get a life folks, they are movies made for entertainment purposes, not historical documentaries. And, luckily, Americans are free to pay their hard-earned money to see them and judge for themselves regarding their merits and message -- Not have a "supreme leader" or some guys who still want to re-live WWII tell us what we should or should not see.

This makes me want to go and see the movie. Thanks, Supreme Leader. Nanoo=Nanoo. I may follow it up with 'Unbroken'.

Let me see if I've got this: "A S" is anti-Islam. So, then his converse argument would have to be: what Al-Q and ISIS are doing thus represents Islam?

I don't think this movie is anti-Islam propaganda, nor do I think it's pro-America propaganda. Seems to me it's a movie about people in wars killing other people, which is what war is all about. War is stupid. Wars start because stupid people think it's ok to kill innocent bystanders to make a point. Glorifying war is stupid, but denying the need to stop others from kill people for no real rational reason is also stupid. It's a difficult topic to address with the right sort of control. I don't intend to see this movie, as from what I've seen so far, I don't feel it gets the balance right. As for Iran’s supreme leader... he can show the world his ignorance, but it wont affect my opinion.

ive seen this movie and i wouldnt call it anti Islam, both American and Islamic fighters are killed in the movie, telling a story of what actually happens on a battlefield. ISIS, Taliban Al-Qaeda etc are what gives Islam a bad name! the saying goes, not all the worlds terrorist are Muslims, but the majority of terrorist acts are committed in the name of Islam.

the official IRNA news agency quoted Khamenei as saying.

“That’s what they say about the film. I haven’t seen it myself,” he added.

This alone should explain everything already - like many of you who haven't even seen it neither.

If you haven't seen it, then you have no business in commenting.

“That’s what they say about the film. I haven’t seen it myself,” he added."

Khamenei should see it himself, in a U.S. movie theater, with Barack Obama and Vlad Putin, and then the three of them should go out for some drinks afterward.

It takes a lot of paint to whitewash BushWars. 'Sniper' is one bucket of that paint.

Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei isn't a film critic but his concern is a serious one.

'Sniper' isn't billed as an authoritative history of Bush's Iraq. It's billed as a soldier's story.

Many can find qualities of truth and falsehood in 'Sniper'. Many can also find concern that in making a hero's tale from a war based on lies is in some effect a whitewash.

The hero's story is often cast in the setting of moral certainty. Is it possible to have a hero in a war prosecuted on falsehood and carefully crafted lies? Moral certainty is clear enough in 'Sniper' but not in the war Bush created from lies. Worst, a war that achieved nothing of value at such a high price that continues to grow.

Ali Khamenei may have an imperfect knowledge of 'Sniper', not having seen the picture, but one point of his concern is worth consideration. 'Sniper' will be seen in years to come as a comfort for the bigot and that is the concern some have now.

If for this reason only, the Academy should be shamed if this morally corrupted version of Bush's Iraq is awarded Best Picture for 2015. George W. Bush couldn't ask for a better Valentine than that or a broader brush to paint over the failures of his war. But, for someone without a conscience, a small bush is all Bush needs.

You are right, but that is the only thing he is missing, the rest is true.

It is really incredible that stuff like that gets nominated for an Oscar.

Volland:

Have you seen the movie? Or are you making your "incredible" comments the same way that the supreme leader is?

Based on what other people are saying any your own bias.
