TOKYO —

Hong Kong star Jackie Chan, 54, was in Japan this week on behalf of the Hong Kong Tourism Board. At a special event, he appointed actor Hiroki Narimiya, 26, as “Japan-Hong Kong Tourism Exchange Goodwill Ambassador 2009.”

Narimiya will appear in NHK’s special drama “Would you like to have the soup of happiness?” on March 26 and 27. It was made in collaboration with Hong Kong’s RHKT. “I think it is good timing for me to introduce Hong Kong,” Narimiya said.

Actress Yoshino Kimura, 32, who was last year’s exchange ambassador, also attended the event.

Now that Jackie Chan apparently has some Executive Authority, what is he going to do about the economic crisis?

If President Obama and all the king's men can't solve the economic crisis, how could you expect Jackie Chan to do so?

Probably b/c he knows many influential people in Japan who could help increase tourism, boost trade - Jackie Chan is a major movie star and can make any film popular.

Before taken back by China , Hong Kong was the name full of excitements,attractions..now a day that name is just another city of China, not that special anymore.

tclh Agreed. All those little dirty shops with one or two raw bulbs dangling off of FIRE sooner than later electrical grids was so much more fun. HK is boring now and Jackie should move away from it

In a way, maybe. But HK (and maybe Macau) is still the only place in China where people have better manners (though that's not saying much), and where drivers HAVE to stop at red lights and wear seat belts.

Jackie must be finding more excitement in Beijing and Shanghai where he spends most of this time these days; his son just switched to Chinese from American citizenship.
