James Cameron attends Japan premiere of 'Avatar'

TOKYO —
Director James Cameron attended the Japan premiere of his long-awaited film “Avatar” at Roppongi Hills on Monday night. Cameron, who was making his 6th visit to Japan, hadn’t been here since “Titanic” in 1997. He said Japan has always been a lucky country for his movies.
Local celebrities who walked the blue carpet with Cameron and his wife Suzy Amis included Uno Kanda, Christel Takigawa, Dante Carver and Mika Mifune.
Cameron, 55, said he hopes Japanese fans will enjoy the journey to a world they have never seen before in the film, which raises the bar for special effects.
“Avatar” opens in Japan on Wednesday.

Those local celebrities don't seem like the A-list. Where were the Kano sisters or Dewi Sukarno? Or even Ryoko Yonekura would have been better.

A bunch of my friends in the US saw the US premier at the 3D theaters and even the skeptical ones were blown away and raved about the seamless execution of 3D animation and live action filming this movie has. I can't wait to see this!!

That movie was a big let down. Not to say it wasn't good, but nothing from revolutionary as they were promoting it to be.

two words about the movie: cartoon physics!!! all this tech and they still havent figured out how to do things realistically.

Well you can't please everyone. Some people still think Star Wars is state of the art lol. If you see this in 2D you are missing how it was meant to be seen. If this is any indication of things to come I'm on board. Avatar was much better then I was expecting and while it wasn't Lord Of The Rings. It is a huge step foward for the industry. It's also rare I have a connection with characters I actually care about. Although if you have an attention span of 30 sec or less then I guess it not for you. For the rest of us enjoy a masterpiece in the making. Something tells me that the Japanese are going to connect with this more so then even we are for reasons I won't bother going into lol.

Avatar is an excellent movie!!!! I just saw it yesterday and I already want to see it again. The only thing was it wasn't shown in 3D which was disappointing. I will definitely by the DVD when it goes on sale.
