FandB- As usual when i make a comment, it is not answered, as there is none.

Flute contest indeed, and this makes news. Japan has sunk so low.

  • Bento at 06:23 PM JST - 5th October

FandB ..are you a master of any musical instrument? Here`s an answer to your comment..why are you so anti all things Japanese?

  • Otaru at 07:22 PM JST - 5th October

This is a nice story. A young person works hard and succeeds. C'mon FandB have a heart.

  • TokyoGas at 09:30 PM JST - 5th October

Congrats Ueno-san! I never learned how to play any instrument.

Bento- I am not anti anything, except Japans obsession with itself.

This would only make the local papers where the winner lived in any other country. These contests are daily occurances worldwide, we only ever hear if a Japanese wins, not about runner up, nothing.

It is a dangerous sickness only thinking your country and its people matter. I don't hate the winner or Japan, just the obsession with wanting to be adored and adoring themselves.

and you made this assupmtion from seeing a minor news headline in the entertainment section of an internet based JAPAN news site about a JAPANESE musician? hahahahahaha "japan has sunk so low" hahahaha.

BLackFlag- try joing the real world, this is only local town , not even city news. nihoniko- The forum rules state all posts must be in English, it is not a place to show off our foreign language skills.

I say well done to the student, but it does not warrant mention on a site like this.

No worries BlackFlag, no need to argue with or "debate" with hate speech. Much props to this young lady for winning a prestigious award in a prestigious contest, great for her.

  • 1keiron at 12:19 PM JST - 6th October

Haha I knew this headline would spark of the JT forum trolls. Congrats to the young lady for winning, I wish her all the good fortune for her future.

An international contest usually brings contestants from many countries and they are all excellent. Japanese musicians have won, over the years, piano competitions, singing (opera) competitions, violin competitions, and now, a flute competition. To win an international competition, the musician has to have not only technical skills but also a certain passion. Negative passions, such as - hey, it's only in Japan this is news - don't make winners. As is obvious.

Having tried to be average on the flute, I know the work it takes to be internationally recognized as a winner. Congratulations to the young Ueno on her great accomplishment.

Jean Pierre was a very famous flautist, and if you have time look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Pierre_Rampal Only just recently I bought some of his works on CD. Exquisite. There is no denying many Japanese musicians are performing on top level internationally and that is something to be proud of. I am very pleased about this news and for Ueno.
