Good for him. He has a beautiful voice and seems quite down-to-earth. I think it's great he's breathing new life into enka.

Before this guy, I think the last famous singer from Pittsburgh was Perry Como, and that was a while ago.

Here in Japan he is seen as the flavor of the day. He is a half hearted attempt by someone in the Japanese entertainment business to show it is open and not over shadow by racism.

Nothing half-hearted about it, he's been working his butt off since the first single came out. And contrary to being seen as flavor of the day, he's expected by many here in Japan to have some staying power--that's how he's able to get up on stage with all the heavyweights on NHK's music shows. I predict he'll eventually lose the hip-hop look and enjoy a long career.
