WASHINGTON —
Popular African-American ‘‘enka’’ singer Jero sang on Saturday in the opening ceremony of the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival in the U.S. capital. Among the three songs he sang was his hit ‘‘Umiyuki’’ (Ocean Snow), about a heartbroken woman and her unrequited love.
Hundreds of people, including Japanese Ambassador to the United States Ichiro Fujisaki, attended the ceremony held at a museum, enjoying Jero’s performance and other activities. Jero’s previous performance in the United States was a concert last year at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, his hometown.
