If this comes to Japan, I'll be interested to see what title they give it (after input from Japanese historians). "Fiction Man" perhaps.

I hope the commenters here are smart enough to realize that this film was made with Japanese cooperation and stars two well known Japanese actors. Also, I kind of find it rather odd that an article about a movie about John Rabe should say that "Historians generally agree the Japanese army slaughtered at least 150,000 civilians.." when it is widely known that John Rabe had expressed a civilian death count of 40-60,000 in his diaries. This figure incidentally corresponds to the Red Army official journal and Miner Searle Bates of the International Safety Zone Committee as well. This is NOT to debate the actual figure but seems absurd if this movie is about John Rabe.

and another estimate of the civilian toll (excluding soldiers and POWs) is about 40,000-60,000, which corresponds to the figures from three sources; one is the Red Army's official journal of the time, Hangdibao and another is that of Miner Searle Bates of the International Safety Zone Committee, and the third is the aforementioned figure written by John Rabe in a letter [

So, and what? Does this mean that Japanese finally will have the truth uncovered and admitted? I smartly doubt so. This movie will be edited or censored, I also smartly think.

Historians generally agree the Japanese army slaughtered at least 150,000 civilians and raped tens of thousands of women in the rampage in Nanjing.

Unless those historians happen to be Japanese.
