Junichi Ishida holds his award.

TOKYO —

Actor Junichi Ishida, 55, has been chosen as celebrity most successful in their efforts to get married this year, and picked up the award for “Spouse Hunter of the Year 2009” at an event held at The Westin Hotel this week.

Ishida, who will marry pro-golfer Riko Higashio, 34, in May next year, said he was honored to receive the prestigious award, and said that marriage is the most important work of one’s life.

When asked about golfer Tiger Woods’ recent misadventures in marriage, Ishida replied: “I’ll try not to find myself on the wrong end of a 3-iron.”

I disagree with Junichi-san. Raising children is the most important work of one's life. Marriage is just a way to delineate "borders" that cannot be crossed while raising the children. You can go your entire life without being married and still have a successful life (and I'm not talking monetarily successful). Tiger didn't realize that and now look at what happened to him. Had he stayed single then all those women aren't "mistresses", but "girlfriends" and perfectly acceptable - even in the overly-Puritanical U.S.

They have a "Spouse Hunter of the Year" award now?

    Jeez.

Well, I am now nominating myself for "Eye-roller of the Year", because this kekkon/award business is way out of hand.

he was honored to receive the prestigious award

oh man. how terrible. both the award and the groom, and most likely the bride. Oh well, Its seems the whole thing is deserving of itself.

I guess he's not a fan of "catch and release".

MOre news about people who are not famous at all!! I looked up his name... What do I find? An old fart who looks silly wearing glasses. Now who cares if he is married or not? Pure dumb

Pure stupidity. Prestigious? Twenty years difference almost qualifies for the best jail baitest.

Did like his 3 iron comment although he skipped the infedility issue. It basically says, I hope my wife doesn't find out or doesn't care enough to pick up an iron.

I'm going to get a job thinking up these useless talento&product-promo 'awards' - I've got a million of them.

'Best Toiletist' is one. Guess what that one's for?

    Kleenex, I'm ready for offers.

Spouse Hunter of the Year 2009

Is he supposed to be proud of this title? Doesn't it reflect his own failure in life?..so what's next? Child Kidnapper of The Year?

Best Spouse Hunterist would the regular name for this award, following the usual convention...

Does Japan get to win moronic nation of the year award for having so many ridiculous awards? Or country with most pointless tarento and most boring TV award?

    Just interested..

  • 0

    biglittleman

What a stupid award! Pretty soon there will be a best stalker award for the guy who urinated in the women's malibox. Or the best upskirt photographer. Or the best police crime for 2009! When will this madness end?

  • 0

    pamelot

This guy is smiling holding an award to celebrate his perpetual search for a wife? What the hell does that mean? Old bird dogs never give up on that wind up mouse?

    nitouryuu

Isn't this the same idiot that has appeared on "wide shows" after getting busted having affairs followed by the inevitable divorce report? His famous quote, "不倫は文化".

He's always been eligible for this award. Too bad it's always other peoples' spouses he's hunting!

Absolutely earth shattering, and a little plaque to boot. I think all JT readers can now rest easily after hearing the results of this award. North Korean arms seized in Thailand, murder and mayhem in Japan, kids starving in Africa, and now this. Thanks eds for making my day complete.

From what I can tell, "Sleeze of the Year" is more apt for this bloke.

    stupid award

    kyoken

And who is selected as the "divorcee of the year" ?

  • 0

    TanakaTaro

has been chosen as celebrity most successful in their efforts to get married this year

Surely you are either successful or unsuccessful? How can anyone be most successful? Are many celebrities only getting half married?

  • 0

    larguero

    who gives this award?

He is successful because his soon to be father in law opposed to the marriage. I am tired of these "happy awards": put some spice in them (like "worst nikibi face", the "less intelligent man" or "the fatty celebrity of the year").

  • 0

    slizzzer

Wow! I was hoping he would win.

  • 0

    Foxie

Being 55 and accepting such an award says it all. Time to grow up now.

  • 0

    Gaijinocchio

    Who was he competing against?

  • 0

    GW

And who is selected as the "divorcee of the year" ?

I predict this same dude! About a year from next May hahaha

  • 0

    stirfry

i give it 10 months before he's winning 'spouse loser of the year'

  • 0

    dolphingirl

Spouse 'hunter'? Did he have to use a stun gun to catch his little deer?

  • 0

    Triumvere

Best Spouse Hunter? The man needs to begiven the award for "Best J-Celeb one-liner" of the Year.

“I’ll try not to find myself on the wrong end of a 3-iron.”

I mean, that's gold. So much better than the inane responses these increadibly stupid questions usually elicit.

The most eligible young man in japan gets married.

    Poon hunter of the year!!!

    yabits

If Japan had "The Dumbest Award of the Year," this one would face some pretty stiff competition.

  • 0

    nandakandamanda

So his wife-to-be didn't get one? Well done to him, but not to her, right?

  • 0

    Fadamor

...chosen as celebrity most successful in their efforts to get married this year.

So you don't have to actually GET married, you just have to be a celebrity and the "most successful" in your EFFORT to get married. I wonder how they managed to measure THAT parameter?

  • 0

    LoveUSA

I think he is successful because he dresses nicely. He has a handkerchief in his pocket.

  • 0

    Sarge

"The most eligible young man in Japan gets married"

    He's 55, Love.

"I'll try not to find myself on the wrong end of a 3-iron"

    He's whipped already ha ha

    InTheKnow

He said that marriage is the most important work of one’s life.

LOL! This will be his third marriage. That comment is a slap in the face to his two ex-wives. I wouldn't expect him to retire and grow old with this third wife, 20 years his junior. Aaah, celebrity life.
