For the past weeks when walking past there in the evening I have seen many people taking photos of the building. There is an open area under the building, which connects to a couple of subway stations and that area could be a great meeting point during crummy weather.

Great! Hope to go there one of these days.

have seen many different cultural performances before but I must say kabuki is as interesting as watching grass grow.

The shots I saw on TV were impressive, hope to get there to see it in person soon!

Whilst I agree with wtfJapan that kabuki is essentially a tortuous yawn-fest, this rebuilt theatre does look seriously impressive. Worth popping my head in for a whip around when I'm next in the big smoke.

wtfjapan... also to see the grass grow you must require a lot of patience and appreciation... kabuki is the hardest theatre acts to see...

I had thought Kabuki to be something like Noh, something inaccessible or boring. However thanks to the Kabuki Theatre group in Toronto which showed plays with subtitles in a movie theatre it turns out to be very similar to Western plays (with enjoyable differences) and quite accessible. I'm glad they fixed the building up and look forward to going there one day!

Noh Theatre is a real Sleepfest but after being introduced to Kabuki in N.Y.C. a few years back it was a very good experience- is this the same building as the Koma theater?

It all depends on what kind of Kabuki you're watching. A whole day experience could be considered by some to be boring... but to paint all Kabuki as a "tortuous yawn-fest" is akin to saying the same about all Shakespeare.

wtfujapan, what was the title of the act you saw?
