Karina gets 10 years' supply of Double Zero Cocktail
Entertainment ( 19 )
TOKYO —
Actress and model Karina, 27, is starring in a new series of TV commercials for Asahi Beer’s Double Zero Cocktail line. The cocktail, which has been on the market for approximately one year, is non-alcoholic and has zero calories, and recently celebrated one million cases sold.
Asahi said Karina’s image is sure to boost sales even further, dubbing her the “zero cocktail angel.”
To commemorate the sales record, Asahi presented Karina with a 10-year supply of the drink – or 3,650 cans. “I’ll be sure to give some to friends and co-workers,” she said at a news conference. “I want to tell them, ‘Even if you don’t get drunk, this will make you happy!’”
The commercials will air from Friday.

I bet the ingredients for this drink were coming from Asahi chemicals.

Where do you put all those cans, and won't they get old and taste bad like soda and beer?

Just another can of chemicals...useless. Squeeze a lemon into soda water and live nicely.

Maybe getting a bit too deep here, but I think the reason non-alcoholic cocktails and near-beers sell so well in Japan is that a huge swath of the Japanese population suffers from mild alcoholism and the society doesn't generally acknowledge it. A few older Japanese I associate with drink these things with lunch or if they're DD. I also see salarymen drinking regular beer at 9 am pretty frequently.

The amount of aspartame and the like in that stuff is pretty suspect..chuhai always tastes like saccharine to me..I doubt she will keep it,unless she has a much bigger house than mine.I would have thought the company could at least have sent that many cans up to the evac centres to keep people cool...although maybe they have.

Cocktail? How? A cocktail by definition contains alcohol: any of various short mixed drinks, consisting typically of gin, whiskey, rum, vodka, or brandy, with different admixtures, as vermouth, fruit juices, or flavorings, usually chilled and frequently sweetened.
It's a bloody soft drink!!!

It would seem easy for other soft drink companies to copy this marketing. Any no-calorie drink could be called a double zero cocktail. Coke Zero, zero calorie beer, etc. The only exception, I suppose, is tap water.

disillusioned, chill out. Yeah, non-alcoholic beer is not beer but it's sold in the same section as beer. This non-alcoholic "cocktail" isn't a cocktail, but it's sold in the same section. It's a soft drink with an alcoholic flavor. On another note : so far there have been 11 comments and not one person has mentioned pregnant or breast-feeding women, which is this product's main target market.

Sounds like a new marketing ploy for another diet soda- take out the carbonation & call it a cocktail....

I just saw this ad on telly. Guess what? It's asinine, formulaic and assumes every viewer had the intellectual capacity of a six-year-old. What an astonishing surprise.
