Kenji Sakaguchi asks Ebi-chan for a date during filming of kiwifruit commercial

Actor Kenji Sakaguchi, 33, and fashion magazine AneCan model Yuri Ebihara, 29, are appearing in an upcoming commercial for ZESPRI Gold Kiwifruit. The new commercial for the kiwifruit product airs from Friday, and is their sixth ZESPRI commercial together. Both of them are single, and in the past when asked about their compatibility, both had shied away from providing any clear comments.

Sakaguchi changed that this week when he admitted to having asked Ebi-chan out on a date last year. He said that they tried to make plans to get together in January, but it didn’t happen as he was busy filming a drama in Okinawa.

Ebihara said that Sakaguchi had since asked her to go to the beach in summer, and she said: “If I see him surfing, I’m his.”

I think I'm starting to catch on. Japanese corporations make up these press releases to get a little free publicity. American corporations do the same thing, they don't normally get "covered" by general news organizations. The American press releases normally only show up in the trade-specific publications.

As long as they keep putting pretty ladies in the pictures, I can live with the beefcake they usually also include.
