"his films are better than his comedy on TV".

Genkiga deru terubi was probably his best show, and probably the best ever Japanese tv show of all time!! I'll name the, "Bestist Japanese TV show of all time" in fact.

Beat Takeshi should do his old Takeshi's Castle show. It wold give us place to send the POWs after President Obama closes Guantanamo.

Genkiga deru terubi was an awesome tv program (many here may have never heard or seen it) and I would agree his best. What a shame it went off the air, Sunday evenings have never been the same. With all the other Japanese good directors making film here, why is it that I only see Beat-san getting all the press?

Yes it was noirgaijin, unfortunately like most tv shows it ran out of ideas at the end and a lot of the stuff became just plain vulgar, but until then it was hilarious.

Why only Beat-san getting all the press? My guess would be that due to Japanese-style groupism one person needs to picked as the leader for that group, hence Takeshi.

    Because the French love him.

It's a very good award, and I'm sure Beat will be happy (the Greek one should make him happy too).
