Kiyoshi Hikawa holds karaoke competition

Enka singer Kiyoshi Hikawa, 33, held a talent contest this week to publicize the release of his latest single “Ano musume to nogiku to watashibune.” The competition, staged by his label Nippon Columbia, was judged on a karaoke style performance in which each entrant was invited to send in a video of themselves singing the same song. Out of 6,245 participants, the eventual winner was nine-year-old Kohei Ogura from Fukushima Prefecture.
In a statement released by Nippon Columbia, Hikawa said, “He’s a very talented singer. I look forward to seeing more of him in the future. He really does have an amazing voice.”
Hikawa caused a stir on his blog recently when he described how he was handling the new energy-saving measures. “Air conditioning isn’t great for your voice, so I tend to avoid it and just dress lightly instead. When I go out I wear a tank top and shorts. At home I usually don’t wear anything.” That last statement has had the tabloids buzzing this week.
Hikawa also wrote that the summer had been good for his gardening hobby. “I have a little vegetable garden on the balcony. I grow mini tomatoes, cucumbers and shiso.”

Maybe he is making shiso juice with his shiso. It is such a refreshing drink in summer. He is a great guy and singer with or without clothes.

While I don't like the man's music, he is a talented and very kind individual. It sounds like an interesting contest, and I'm sure the nine-year old who won is ecstatic.

Air conditioning isn't great for my TEPCO electric bill, so I always avoid it. But at home I always wear at least a tank top and shorts - have to leave something for the neighbors' imagination ha ha
