Kobayashi flies off to Hawaii after engagement ceremony

Kobayashi flies off to Hawaii after engagement ceremony
Mao Kobayashi

TOKYO —

Christmas eve marked the date when television announcer Mao Kobayashi, 27, formally became engaged to kabuki star Ebizo Ichikawa, 32, but the bride-to-be soon jetted off the next evening on a flight to Hawaii for a magazine photo shoot that is said will last several days.

Ebizo could not join Kobayashi on the trip because of preparations for his Jan 2 show, “Hatsuharu Hanagata Kabuki,” and on Christmas too was hard at work into the evening. On the same day, Kobayashi’s blog announced, “We have finally exchanged engagement gifts.”

While the pair refused to let the press in on the ceremony, she wrote, “Next year we’ll make a more thorough announcement.” The two plan to hold a press conference at the end of January or beginning of February after Ebizo’s shows are finished. A big wedding ceremony and reception are planned for summer.

One can only hope so. But get in line. This Ebizo character already cut in and I'm not going to let that happen again.

Hope this time NHK will not broadcast live ceremony (even if the couple appears in Japanese Traditional Wedding Dress) like they did for Fujiwara.

And then went about their business (modeling and rehearsing) just like a working couple and from this mature level of a relationship we get 'a divorce waiting to happen.'

Sounds like this couple has their head on straight. That doesn't mean they'll never divorce, but they're off to a good start.

Cheers. I'll need rice and soup while in hiding after the "accident."

She's a news announcer and doing a magazine photo shoot? I don't recall Walter Kronkite ever doing that.

This goes to show how announcers in Japan don't have a shred of intelligence, unless she has a radar lock on the 50% of the estate she'll get once she catches him philandering.
