Korean boom hits the Japan Record Awards with Big Bang
Five-member Korean boy-band Big Bang was named Best New Artist at the 51st Japan Record Awards on Wednesday night. Member D-Lite, 20, commented in fluent Japanese after the win, “I didn’t expect we’d win such a big award… my hands are shaking.”
The group has swept away their Korean homeland, having won 35 different awards for their music, and have finally made their way into Japan’s music scene. Vocalist Sol, 21, thanked Japanese audiences, saying, “Please keep cheering us on, we’re looking forward to doing our best.”
Big Bang is known for their skillful singing and stylish dances, and hit the Oricon charts at number three in June with their debut song, “My Heaven.” Since then, they’ve released two more singles and one album, all of which have hit the top five.
