Truly one of the most amazing instrumentalists of all time. I remember seeing him on the Dick Cavett show when I was a little boy and he just blew my mind. I played my cassette tape of the Gandhi soundtrack until it fell apart. His ability to imbue a traditional native music with universal spirituality was unparalleled.

I first started listening to his music in the early 1970's which always made my mind very peaceful. He brought world attention to the sitar and Indian music in general. He was also a nice guy who I met several times. Recently I listen to my first concert by his daughter Norah Jones, she's good too.

I don't have any music of Shankar's, but I did like it when I heard it, and have nothing but respect for the man. It sounds like he had a pretty decent life. RIP, and thanks.

He was truly one of the greatest. Everybody (including Hendrix, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Doors, Led Zeppelin) were influenced by his music. His daughter, Norah Jones is also a very accomplished musician.
