There's a good review of "Lincoln."

The viewer must bear in mind that it's a historical drama, not a documentary, and as such there's a wide latitude allowed between the fact and fiction of the story. That said, the performances are said to be very good. The facts, however, are very loosely based on the actual history.

What facts are loosely presented?

The film Lincoln was fascinating although flawed. Some commentators are correct that there was a lack of explanation concerning Lincoln's evolution on the issue of slavery as well as Spielberg's tradition of creating "the white man hero" that saved the down trodden minority. However it is clear that the majority of commentators are pursuing their own misguided pernicious agenda. Thus some neo-secessionist are frustrated and upset that SCA is being accurately portrayed as the racists, rebel force that they are. It's a great cinema with excellent acting, decor, and costume. The movie is based on real events and the dialogue is astonishing with great camera work and a fundamental respect for the viewers ability to handle two and a half hours of people talking, arguing and philosophizing. If you're traveling overseas to the mainland during December go look at the flick.
