Mao Kobayashi launches new burger

TOKYO —

TV presenter and actress Mao Kobayashi, 28, perhaps best known as the wife of celebrated kabuki actor Ebizo Ichikawa, 32, appeared at a launch event for a new Lotteria burger commercial this week. The TV ad is for the fast-food chain’s new “ebimayo” (prawn mayonnaise) burger.

The pair were chosen to endorse the product because of their “Brangelina”-esque couple nickname, “Ebimao,” according to Lotteria officials. “I’ve loved prawns since I was a little girl, so I’m really pleased to be doing this,” said Kobayashi.

When the press asked her if she had any personal news to share she responded, “A cause for celebration? We’ve got nothing planned yet.”

    Almost like shrimp. But as I stated, I can eat a shrimp burger?, but a prawn burger just sounds unappatizing.

    A shrimp is a little weedy guy. A shrimp burger?

    Now a prawn is more "lobster-esque" so a prawn burger is naturally yummy.

    But I have serious doubts about this particular mayo confection.

    That said, what's with burgers and this country? They're obsessed. I hands down know more people here who eat at fast-food joints than I do back in my home country.

    While the burger is not the healthiest, most people here will only visit a burger joint once a month, at the most.

    Unlike some other countries, where it is considered as a meal once or twice a week...

    ebi is shrimp (often called koebi (because it is little) kuruma ebi is prawn (can also refer to scampi,,,anything bigger than a shrimp) and wait for it,,,ise ebi is spiny lobster so they are all ebi is a bit like fish is fish is fish

    Prawns are just as tasty as any shrimp! but tartar sauce might go better, no?

    In what country is a burger considered a meal once or twice a week? There's always going to be unhealthy people to consume the fast food regularly, but that doesn't mean it's a norm.

    technically, shrimps are seawater decapods while prawns are freshwater decapods.

    I ask myself that perplexing question every single day! If they really want to make a great Ebi burger, put either tartar sauce (thinly, that's the key) or cocktail sauce to have a real kickin' sandwich, probably could sell hundreds more.

    yeah the Japanese like mayo. & ive seen some sanwiches being made on JPTV they keep putting stuff on it. hey the Japanese like Burgers SO what! they like to try all kinds of different things. im sure its wierd but id love to try one. Hold! the mayo! desu yo!

    Hahahahaha! I like this keyword 'everything'! Let your imagination do its work. Actually mayo tastes great in a lot of different combinations. And where do you think the Japanese consumer might have picked up the habit? Is it weird? Of course not. Is it weird to put salt and pepper on everything, soy sauce, oil and vinegar, tomato ketchup? Just eat what you like. I'm not even commenting on the habit of eating these junk hamburgers . . . with mayo or without.
