Marie and Chris Peppler to host Academy Awards live broadcast

TOKYO —
While the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony next month will be hosted by actors Steve Martin, 65, and Alec Baldwin, 51, in Hollywood, here in Japan radio and TV personality Chris Peppler, 52, and model-turned personality Marie, 22, will host a live broadcast of the event called “Celebrities - One After Another! Academy Awards Red Carpet & Party Live.”
Peppler has hosted the broadcast for 8 years in a row and Marie is back after dazzling all with her 200 million yen outfit last year. This time, she will be wearing jewelry worth just 150 million yen and she showed it off at a press conference this week in Tokyo.
Marie quipped that security guards even followed her to the bathroom, adding: “I want to go to the movies with a guy who can give me such beautiful jewelry.”
Marie also commented on sci-fi epic “Avatar,” which is up for 9 nominations along with war flick “The Hurt Locker,” saying: “When I went to see ‘Avatar,’ the 3-D version was really crowded, so I saw it in 2-D. I want to see it again in 3-D.”
“Celebrities - One After Another! Academy Awards Red Carpet & Party Live” will air on Movie Plus at 1 p.m. on March 8.

Agree with you. Additionally, it's really inconsiderate to her co-host to wear these ridiculous shoes that make her taller than him. She'd probably be about the right/same hight as him if she just wore normal heels instead of these glass-bottomed jobs.

Pebbler is a radio DJ (J Wave 81.3 FM) and frequent host of music shows on TV. He's been around awhile. Whether he is known by every human on the planet is immaterial - he can handle the Academy Awards job admirably.

"he can handle the Academy Awards job admirably." Pebbler does his homewor and is able to give some insight into the films, actors, actresses, directors etc. This is no squeeling pretty boy ! He knows his stuff and is one of the few foreign television personalities in Japan who are "Watchable."

Chris Peppler is knowledgeable, entertaining and professional; I used to listen to him on radio and his distinctive voice is unmistakable. He can be seen occasionally on television, too.

Peppler was the lead in a Saturday night drama about a year ago, playing an American boss at a Japanese company with serious anger issues. Also saw him hosting a show with Marty Friedman on NHK-E a couple of months back. He seemed a solid presenter, though the drama didn't do anything for me.

I agree, but I wouldn't call him a foreign personality. Dave Spector's a foreign personality. Pakkun is a foreign personality.
Mr Peppler is in the same unfortunate company as Becky and Wentz Eiji, half Japanese, born and raised in Japan. The difference is he is a thorough professional, excellent at what he does - Being a DJ and MC.

The Academy Awards telecast is the biggest scam in the world. Hosting a "let's pretend we're in Hollywood" Oscar shows and parties is pretty darn pathetic.

Chris Peppler is one of my favorite speakers on tv and radio. He is cool, has great voice and is very watchable. I love him, especially his deep voice.

Isn't Chris Peppler the voiceover guy for the "Let's speak English" on NHK hosted by Pak-kun? If so he does have a cool voice.
