Masaaki Sakai marries long-term partner 22 years his junior

TOKYO —

TV personality Masaaki Sakai, 65, has married his partner of nine years, a woman 22 years his junior. In a fax sent from Sakai’s talent management agency to media, it was revealed that the couple got married on Aug 6 at their local ward office.

Sakai is believed to have met the woman in 2002, after which they were seen on vacation together in Bali, Indonesia in 2003. Sources close to the couple said that Sakai, who has been married and divorced twice, did not remarry at the time out of consideration for his daughters, but that he now deemed them to be mature enough to accept his moving on.

According to the press release, the couple do not plan to hold a wedding reception.

I'm appalled. Someone as famous as him should have married someone at least half his age, not a mere 22 years younger.

I don't see why the big fuss. The woman is in her 40's,not some young chippy. And he waited a while to marry,not jumped into it . Good luck to them.

I am careless what he wants to do in his life.
But, I would like to know how many children he has produced in bad marriages. I hope they are all grown up to be law abiding citizens in J. society.

They've been together for 9 years already. Not like he's marrying some 22 year old TV talento he met at a party 3 months ago. Even if that was the story, I wouldn't care.

People always say 'age does not matter', meaning the (huge) difference in age. Until they find out it does.
