Meisa Kuroki attends L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards

TOKYO —

Actress Meisa Kuroki, 23, attended the sixth annual “L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards” ceremony in Tokyo this week. The event was started as the result of a partnership between French cosmetics company L’Oréal and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote the position of women in science and to pay tribute to outstanding women in the field. Each laureate also receives a grant of $100,000.

Kuroki said of the ceremony, “It’s great to see women thriving in so many different fields. I feel inspired by their efforts. It makes me want to try to be the kind of person who can inspire others.”

The article is missing the main point. The main point should not be Meisa Kuroki, but the women who were awarded for the work in Science. Any background information there would be welcome.

Yeah, having in mind actually how many women in Japan are actually working in the scientific field, I find it ironical that "Women in Sciense awards " are presented here.

Electric, you are so very right, but not in the world of journalism. Why? Simply, ask any news source what's the impact of the news that scientist X dix Y vs. the news of a hot model doing Z. One of the winners from last year is my student (no hot model at last year's ceremony), and I can safely assume that these girls are very uncomfortable in the presence of a top model dressed according to the latest fashion.

Cosmetic company invited Kuroki as its public image, Japanese women who received the awards on the stage for their scientific achievement. The cash award is a recognition of Japanese women success in their professional careers.
