Meisa Kuroki sparkles but stays silent on relationship

Actress Meisa Kuroki, 21, made her first public appearance this week since reports broke out that she is dating kabuki actor Shido Nakamura, 37, but the starlet did not comment on the relationship.

Kuroki took to the stage at a hotel in Shinjuku Ward to accept an award from jewelry firm Forevermark Diamonds, presented to women “rich in talent and beauty.” About 100 photographers and reporters packed in to the function space to follow her every move. Kuroki entered the room in a sleek, low-cut black dress and was greeted with a barrage of camera flashes.

She was presented with a necklace and 1.1 carat diamond pendant, which sat a few centimeters above her firm cleavage. Kuroki expressed her gratitude and said that she hoped to refine herself more from now on.

No questions were permitted, but as Kuroki left the stage, many in the media throng asked if the rumors were true about her relationship with Nakamura. She didn’t respond to any of the questions, and was shielded by her long, radiant hair.

Photos of Kuroki snuggling up to Nakamura can be seen in weekly gossip magazine Friday’s Oct 1 issue. Kuroki’s agency has denied the pair are seeing each other, and has insisted they are just friends.

As a fan of her, I'm very glad to see her career going on well, even if it's just a public appearance or an award of this kind. Not really interested in gossip, though: she is a good actress, hope she'll be recognized for her work rather than for rumors. But this is Japanese showbiz for you.

I could swear that I saw Meisa in a Verison commercial here in the states last month. She was in Kaze no Garden last year with Ogata Ken - whom we dearly miss. I think we'll be seeing lots of her as her acting and musical careers develop. Don't forget Dance Subaru too. . . .
