Michiko Kichise admits filming new commercial was 'difficult'

Actress Michiko Kichise, 34, who is appearing in TV commercials for the drink “DANONE BODY-ism CALCIUM WORKS”, says it was a difficult assignment. In the ads, she is featured in 11 different costumes and hairstyles.

“I was really excited to be in the commercials because after I hit 30, I’ve been putting a lot of effort into leading a healthy lifestyle,” Kichise commented. However, she confessed, “It was difficult to pretend like I was 11 different people.”

The drink contains half the amount of the suggested daily intake of calcium.

I love the way people come onto JT and try lamely to stick up for the "talentos". Most of their Western counterparts are smart enough to keep their mouths shut about the "difficulties" of their jobs, and when they do, they don't sound like they're complaining.

i think i should remind people that a lot of western celebrities come to japan to do this kind of vapid advertising work because they know that doing it at home would not do their public image any favours. over here it's par for the course. no advertiser would think of having anyone but the small number of "selected" tarentos

  • aerockyulhim at 06:59 PM JST - 30th June

that's extremely true, griff. That doesn't say much for the Western celebs' integrity, but it does at least speak to their overall intelligence that this drivel wouldn't fly without major repercussions back home

Danone products cause cancer, which is actually quite true due to the amount of carcengenics or whatever they have hah.

    Healthy lifestyle...

Two questions. No, three actually. One, who is she anyway? Two, who actually cares how hard it is to make some crappy commercial that no one wants to watch? Three, why is this news?

    "Who is she anyway?"

The issue is that every advertisement in Japan featuring someone with a miniscule of fame has to have an accompanying press conference (which is always covered by JT) with lame questions and equally lame answers. No wonder they come up with such claptrap. Doing these press-conferences-come-advertisements-for-advertisements and dealing with the 'Do you hope to be married by age 30?' and 'Who are you spending Xmas Eve with must be the hardest part of the whole gig. I don't think the talentos get off easy - their lifestyles seem to be just as pressured as those of salarimen - and I certainly wouldn't want their jobs. But then again, one does have a choice in career, and if you have chosen to be part of the entertainment-marketing conglomerate that exists in Japan, good luck to you!

blvtzpk: He/she gets it. Do not blame the talento, blame the system.

By the way actors back home never stop going on about how difficult making a films is. Do not people watch interviews celebrities when they are selling one of their movies?

I still think she's hot. And I admit I don't really give a hoot about her commercial which I've never seen. I also think you guys ought to get your male hormone levels checked out.

blvtzpk nailed it. This is not the "Breaking News" section, this is the "Entertainment" section. These companies making the commercials sponsor the press conferences (which JT dutifuly re-prints in English) and I guarantee the actress didn't comment about the difficulty of the gig out of the blue. You KNOW some weenie reporter who was assigned at the last minute came up with a lame question like, "Was it difficult playing so many different characters in one commercial?" What is she going to say, "It was so easy I'm ashamed they are going to pay me for it"? IMHO, "entertainment reporters" are even more vapid than blonde Hollywood starlets... or Brittany Spears.

  • soldave at 09:21 AM JST - 1st July

Talent plus product equals entertainment. AN equation that never seems to go out of fashion.

  • griff at 10:11 AM JST - 1st July

every media promotion event is just the same, the only thing that is different is the product, and that is hardly featured! i'm confused why the attending reporters don't get bored to tears with the repetitiveness of it. they must be under pressure from seniors to continue this process. after all, it makes sense that if they actually asked questions about the product on display then every event would be different and more interesting for all involved.

    puzzling.

  • aerockyulhim at 10:56 AM JST - 1st July

Those are all good new points. So the system sucks, the reporters are spineless, and the talentos have relatively easy jobs. The whole situation is still annoying and stupid.

  • Fadamor at 02:35 AM JST - 2nd July

Griff, the problem with that is (to use this press conference as an example): Reporter A: "Kichise-san, how does the calcium in CALCIUM WORKS differ from that which you get, say, in a multivitamin or milk?"

    Kichise-san: "......"

Reporter B: "Kichise-san, wouldn't it be cheaper to just use a glass of water and a multivitamin?"

    Kichise-san: "......"

  • The758 at 02:44 PM JST - 2nd July

However, she confessed, “It was difficult to pretend like I was 11 different people.”

Imagine much she got paid for this ... I'd pretend to be 111 people for that kind of money
