Mika Nakashima sings beneath Tokyo's biggest Christmas tree

TOKYO —

Singer Mika Nakashima, 25, on Monday night performed for 500 fans in front of Tokyo’s biggest Christmas trees in Daiba to introduce her latest songs “Orion” and “Life.”

Nakashima, who took part in the lighting ceremony of the 15-meter Christmas tree adorned by some 30,000 LEDs, held a mini concert for her fans. She said, “I have never seen such a big tree before.”

Her latest album “Voice” will be released on Wednesday.

go to Tasmania..or even Yakushima. These light-up events are becoming a joke.Even as pretty as they can undeniably be,they waste a huge amount of electricity and cost the tax-payer.The Luminarie in kobe is on it's last legs for this reason. My local park turned it's Xmas lights on last week. Overkill and schmaltz.

it is not the $$ that matter or the decoration, but the spirit of X'mas and for the 1st time i know, Japan put up X'mas tree and celebrate X'mas in a big scale. X'mas is all about giving that is where the joy of X'mas come from.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

She's got quite a nice voice on her - love the end theme from Tentai Kansoku.

Why do Japanese start putting Xmas decorations and lights in november? isn't a little early? or it is because the winter already causes the days to be shorter (i.e. less daylight?)

It is difficult for me to understand since we in South America Xmas time is in summer, so we have long hours of daylight...

rjd - what happened to who?

Got time for Nakashima Mika. Decent voice, decent range of songs and she was in Nana (note, not Nana 2 which was 2 hours of my life I will never get back).
