Miki Mizuno and Masato win 'Fur of the Year' Contest

TOKYO —

Actress Miki Mizuno, 34, and K-1 fighter Masato, 29, were announced winners in the “Fur of the Year” contest held by the Japan Fur Association this week. Mizuno appeared in a fur coat and Masato in a fur jacket, both valued at 5 million yen. The award is given to those who “look best in fur.”
“I’ve always wanted a fur product…and for it to happen like this. I’m delighted,” Mizuno said. “When I looked in the mirror, I thought I looked pretty cool,” Masato said.

He is supposed to be a tough figher, but he looks like my granny.

Hey, some grannies are pretty tough.

They better be careful in public, PETA has a Tokyo branch.

"Best Furists" for sure. I've been a Miki Mizuno fan for many years :)

Looks like they won the contest, but there was no-one else taking part...

"both valued at 5 million yen"

Something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Before this award, I suspected she was the "furist" and now she has been confirmed as the "best furist."

Another dork with his pants tucked into his boots. Is this the look this season in Shibuya?

  • PepinGalarga at 11:14 PM JST - 22nd November

Masato made his own fur coat by pummeling small chinchillas with his bare fists.

anyway, what better person to give this award that a K-1 fighter. who would splatter red paint over him? they would have to be crazy.

Miki Mizuno looks like she is 55.

Cavedwellers killed, ate and skinned wild beasts to survive. They didn't intensively breed them in tiny cages, to have them electrocuted and pelted while still alive, all to produce a fur garment nobody needs.

But never mind my ethical objections, they both look very badly-dressed. Are there so many of these meaningless awards they don't bother hiring stylists anymore?

It's impossible to put style into something so completely tasteless.

Best furist? Who comes up with these idiotic awards?

  • zaichik at 08:26 AM JST - 24th November

The only thing worse then the endless amounts of these types of advertising ergh awards, are the redundant "ist" comments on JT.

Ouch! I note your comment didn't put anyone else off further "ist" comments, though. As soon as the Japanese industry groups that come up with stupid appellations like "best jeanist" cease and desist, we'll stop mocking them.

Anyway, to get back to the topic, I would recommend that anyone who likes the feel of fur gets themselves a cat rather than a fur coat.... (spoken as someone who has a timeshare cat - she lives with and is fed by our neighbours, but spends hours at our house every day - all the fun of having a cat, without the responsibility).

I tried this. They make great boas, but they squirm too much when you hang them on the coathooks at restaurants.

:-) The claws are handy if you want them to stay on your head as a hat, though....
