Miki Mizuno and Masato win 'Fur of the Year' Contest

TOKYO —

Actress Miki Mizuno, 34, and K-1 fighter Masato, 29, were announced winners in the “Fur of the Year” contest held by the Japan Fur Association this week. Mizuno appeared in a fur coat and Masato in a fur jacket, both valued at 5 million yen. The award is given to those who “look best in fur.”
“I’ve always wanted a fur product…and for it to happen like this. I’m delighted,” Mizuno said. “When I looked in the mirror, I thought I looked pretty cool,” Masato said.

I believe the original furry animals look the best in fur.

Humans look better in synthetics or plant derived textiles.

Masato's Trent Reznor boots are a fashion disaster.

    Best furrist....

“When I looked in the mirror, I thought I looked pretty cool,”

Yea, well just wait till the raving animal-rights terrorists run up to you and splatter you with red paint screaming "MURDERER!!!!!". I hope you beat them up or something.

    Best furrist....

The only thing worse then the endless amounts of these types of advertising ergh awards, are the redundant "ist" comments on JT.

Fur is what the cavedwellers wore. Wearing fur is just a step backwards into a more primitive time, with more primitive thinking.

M51T said it best, "the original furry animals look the best in fur." With technology today there is no need to wear real fur. Masato is an idiot! He doesn't look cool, he looks like a woman with a man's head.

Penalty award from PETA should also go to Miki and Masato !

Where is anti-furist Sugimoto Aya when you need her. Maybe she can slap and spank some sense into this guy.

"the original furry animals look the best in fur."

    Can't be said often enough.

“When I looked in the mirror, I thought I looked pretty cool,”

You don't look cool, pretty boy. You look like a moron who doesn't know or doesn't care that dozens of little animals spent their lives in sordid misery and died in pain to give you that awful caveman pelt.

Fur looks great on furry animals. It looks atrocious (and is an atrocity) on the naked ape.

How can you be the Best Furrist when you've never worn fur before?

Thats cool ....wearing dead animal skin on your body and around your neck..now imagine.... how about human skin...with a head attach to it.....hahahaha...:P

Pathetic. Anyone who wears fur does indeed deserve the crap PETA dishes out.

  • 0

The two Best Furrists look like brainless dorks, but so do the bodies in the Madison Avenue Mall ads that google is littering this page with. what the is 'luxury' about dead skin?

The real Best Furrist weighs 400-600 gm, has a lifespan of around 10 years and is a native of South America.

yeah right PETA would be very angry...

Cleo: Watch your step! With fighting talk like that, unhinged souls like OssanAmerica might accuse you of being a terrorist.

  • 0

    MANDUDE

aside from the animal issue, as a man I would never wear fur since I don't want to look like a complete toolbag. look at those pics, how could anyone take you seriously when you wear that- all it says is that you have money and no fashion sense

  • 0

    slizzer

There's a dirty joke or two in there somewhere.

  • 0

    cleo

Mandude - Being a man has nothing to do with it. A brainless dork is a brainless dork whatever the shape of their wedding tackle.

    Zuleyka -

You want to spend money at a recycle shop so that you can look like a brainless dork? Why, ferchrissakes?

OMG! I actually dont even know what to say here!!!! What???! Why?! Who???! Isnt every other country in the developed world (and a few developing ones too) throwing red paint at anyone in fur?? And Japan as an AWARD for it!!! This ia actually pretty funny! Next we`ll have a best baby-seal clubber award or something.

No need to bring Hugo Chavez into this, Cleo.

Are you against all leather, Cleo, or just fur?

    Surge1979

Where has Mizuno been? She looks so washed up as her career

  • 0

    Sebarashii

While I generally think that wearing fur is gross, I think that men look particulary stupid doing so. Just look at the picture: He is supposed to be a tough figher, but he looks like my granny.

  • 0

    cleo

    Nessie -

Depends what you mean by 'against'....

While I'd be happier if people didn't eat meat, as long as they do there's going to be hides going spare, and I can understand the argument that using the whole animal is better than wasting half of it. It carries a lot more weight than the take-the-skin-and-throw-the-animal-away business model we see in the fur industry. Plus the thought of killing an animal just for a trivial bit of fur trim is one I find obnoxious. Not to mention the horrendous treatment the poor sad animals are subjected to.

So people wearing leather shoes or carrying leather bags doesn't freak me out, but personally I prefer not to buy leather. Or sheepskin.

Another dork with his pants tucked into his boots. Is this the look this season in Shibuya?

  • 0

    PepinGalarga

Masato made his own fur coat by pummeling small chinchillas with his bare fists.

anyway, what better person to give this award that a K-1 fighter. who would splatter red paint over him? they would have to be crazy.

Miki Mizuno looks like she is 55.

    rurika

Cavedwellers killed, ate and skinned wild beasts to survive. They didn't intensively breed them in tiny cages, to have them electrocuted and pelted while still alive, all to produce a fur garment nobody needs.

But never mind my ethical objections, they both look very badly-dressed. Are there so many of these meaningless awards they don't bother hiring stylists anymore?

It's impossible to put style into something so completely tasteless.

Best furist? Who comes up with these idiotic awards?

  • 0

    zaichik

The only thing worse then the endless amounts of these types of advertising ergh awards, are the redundant "ist" comments on JT.

Ouch! I note your comment didn't put anyone else off further "ist" comments, though. As soon as the Japanese industry groups that come up with stupid appellations like "best jeanist" cease and desist, we'll stop mocking them.

Anyway, to get back to the topic, I would recommend that anyone who likes the feel of fur gets themselves a cat rather than a fur coat.... (spoken as someone who has a timeshare cat - she lives with and is fed by our neighbours, but spends hours at our house every day - all the fun of having a cat, without the responsibility).

I tried this. They make great boas, but they squirm too much when you hang them on the coathooks at restaurants.

:-) The claws are handy if you want them to stay on your head as a hat, though....
