Misako Yasuda at home in Akihabara with 'TowelNet'

TOKYO —

Bikini model-turned-celebrity Misako Yasuda, 27, was in Ishimaru Denki’s main store in Akihabara recently to promote edion’s new high-speed wireless internet service “TowelNet.”

Yasuda said she is happiest when using her computer at home and gazing at the scenery outside. She said she will use the new service for her blog updates, and when she gave it a test-run at the event, she said: “It’s fast, smooth and stress-free.”

Yasuda, who is often in Akihabara for DVD promotions and other PR events, added: “I feel Akihabara is very welcoming and a warm place. It’s kind of like being at home.”

I still get a kick out of this term, when we all know it is a requirement to show skin for a while before you can move on to a career that requires you think in the entertainment industry here.

Any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

She can't possibly be this boring...This must be an appeal to the user audience of the product. Also, Towelnet is a very strange name - why would you need a towel while using the internet?

Wait, are you really asking? I can think of a few reasons that guys in Akihabara (and even the basement dwelling variety at home in the states) would need one.

I was hoping for a different answer - perhaps tissuenet would be more appropriate but less environmentally friendly...

    Haha I suppose so.

Yeah I'm not understanding the 'towel' part either.

  • Yelnats at 12:18 PM JST - 27th October

Well looks like the other carriers are going to have to throw in the towel.

For someone who is a "bikini model-turned-celebrity she is wearing a really boring out fit. You would have thought that she would have a least worn a short skirt or a more revealing top!!!! Not exactly very good use of a promotional model is it.

    I agree - this is not a "towel-worthy" outfit...
