CanCam model Moe Oshikiri, 28, has been dating Yomiuri Giants’ baseball player Takahiko Nomaguchi, 24, for three years, the tabloid Sankei Sports reported Tuesday. Oshikiri and her agent have confirmed the story, the paper said.

According to the paper, the two became acquainted with each other at a mutual friend’s party in the autumn of 2004. They started dating about one year after the party. Sankei reports the two broke up but got back together again.

No 'tactics', just saying how I see it. I don't follow baseball and don't know this Nomaguchi, but JT's picture of him at least shouldn't be eliciting the sour grapes comments we've been seeing here. He may not be Brad Pitt, but so what, most blokes aren't. There's nowt wrong with his looks and no reason for anyone to claim the only reason a pretty girl might be interested in him is his fame and money.

And sorry to burst your tuffguy bubble rjdsr, but for some of us there is no bigger turn-off than the muscle-to-the-top-of-his-head, 'I'm a hardcore alpha male' type.

Cleo, I guess I got sidetracked. I get the feeling that Nomaguchi is a totally nice guy, but my point is if he didn't have the money there's no way he would have the chance to date her. It's easier for women to make the choice of choosing the nice guy if he has money to take care of her.

As for sour grapes??? I don't know... I don't have a chip on my shoulder, but I've always been the nice guy. If I were rich I don't know if I would be the same person. I'd like to think I would be, but that being said we're talking about two celebrities who in all likelihood are set for life regardless of their choices so no, I don't think Moe is a gold digger. At this point I think she's worth more than him, but he's still rich.

Even as a teacher I make a much better than average salary even by standards in Japan, but I'm not rich. At the same time though I have to totally agree with you that people's tastes change as they mature because my fiance makes much more money than me, but we met in our 30s. I'm sure she wouldn't have had anything to do with me in my 20s even though I was a respectable guy...

According to the article they started dating three years ago, when he would have been a 21-year-old newbie and she a 25-year-old well-established model. If she were after money, I imagine she would have chosen differently; though I grant you that there probably aren't that many English teachers or translators in their natural circle of friends.

Nomaguchis salary has ranged between 15-17 million yen over the last 4 years. I dont know how much of a signing bonus he got originally, but I would hardly say he is well off.

It is interesting that the scuttlebutt a year or so ago was that Moe Oshikiri had a foreign boyfriend-reportedly a Canadian-but it was soon dismissed by her people and her and hushed up. Who knows what is true and what is not in the make-believe world of entertainment.

Anyway, I have always liked Moe and wish her the best of luck in everything that she does.

Hate to admit it, but I think I side with cleo on this one. First off, many successful, beautiful women will tell you that they have a hard time attracting nice guys, because they are scared off/intimidated. Second, because of the circles they travel/socialize in, they more often than not meet a lot of rich guys, many of which are arrogant a@@holes. So, the fact that she "settled" in some folks minds for an average looking guy should not be that big a deal. She was probably simply tired of the "alpha male" type. If she was dating some hunk, the same guys critisizing her would be calling her "shallow".

Wow, I was starting to think it was impossible that I could care less about something, but there it is. Nomaguchi was the loser for the Giants today against the Lions. He gave up four runs over five innings. I guess his consolation prize is that hell have Moes shoulder to cry on tonight.
