I really need to start listening to new music again, as I've heard of almost none of these songs (though I know most of the artists). Good on all the winners. As for Brown remaining seated during Ocean's win, what a sore loser, and what a loser in general. Good on Ocean for beating him, and I hope he rubs it in as Brown continues to flaunt the law and get away with it.

I haven't heard any of their other material besides that "I will wait" track that Aussie radio is playing time death...I'm that sick of it I switch stations but it's a Hydra. Make it stop!

*playing to death

Mumford and Sons are a truly awful band. I grew up with folk music and still love it and play it but Mumford and Sons ( once described as 'Tory rock lite' or the kind of music found on iPods at a Boxing Day fox hunt ) lack any of the beauty, anger or feel of folk. Droning and dull.

For the love of God, whoever gave me a thumbs down for commenting that a song repeated ad nauseum on the radio might be irritating- surely has issues. I don't care what the band is, but if a song is played to death on across the FM spectrum, then I'll naturally want to shut it out and stick my fingers in my ears and wish one of the JT mods had the power to delete these songs as easily and readily as they do with trivial posts

Big ups to Aussie boy Gotye - he's come a long way since only Triple-J was playing his stuff. Also nice to see the ladies put those prudes/morality police in their place with their sexy, skimpy dresses!

Mumford and Sons are great.

Good, strong live sound and they also do some interesting fusion work.

A good choice. I'm glad they got it.

Sorry people, my post was a little extreme. My distaste for Mumford and Sons is partly musical and partly because when I heard and felt that foreboding middle-class MOR sound of 'Sigh no more' I knew the Tories were going to win the election. A dreadful and insidious feeling that had my mind flashing back to Liverpool in the 80s under Thatcher.

How was Gangnam Style not the song of the year? I never heard of any of the bands.. but then I do not listen to the radio and there are no more record stores. I think the music was basically whining.. annoying. Ocean sing about Forrest Gump.. are you out of your minds? Who votes for these awards.. oh.. I know.. I used to live in Hollywood and saw how they never acknowledged bands like the Stones, Stevie Ray VAughn, Willie Nelson or anyone who did not kiss them. I have been a couple of times.. before it was a fashion event. It was so boring live.. actually. They had a Hawaiian music category for a couple of years.. but they shut out a masters like Kealii Reichel and Raiatea Helm.. who wrote orignal albums .. and gave award twice to some Chinese guy that did a compilation of slack key masters... and the Hawaiians awards were in a hotel ballroom across the street during the day.. what a sham. Grammy's almost went under 20 years ago when there was no good music just .. whiners. How do you have a tribute to Bob Marley and not end with Jammin. I like the big band but like Swing music.. and a white boy dancing with a rapper just does not work for me. They end the show with gangsta rapper that looked like the fugitive cop killer.. (seriously) rapping about getting a gun and slamin .. Instead of ending the show with a tribute to Donna Summer who died last year.. and the song Last Dance for Love... everyone would have been up dancing.. so I will just listen to Hawaiian music live each night at the local bars that are better than any of the wimpy bands who won your attention.

I like how Mumford and sons are described as "posh blokes with banjos". Ssums it up. Nice Skrillex got recognised (though many would say mthe cioncept of awards for music is pretty lame)

You should have seen the antics Mumford & Sons got up to with Jez and Superhans, while in Ramsgate.

No Gangnam? and where are AKB in all this? These awards are anti-Asian.

Hadn't heard of this band before so I checked out a few of their songs. Clumsily banging out insipid pop songs on bluegrass instruments is hardly "fusion".

More like aural diarrhea.
