TOKYO —

Okinawan singer Namie Amuro, 32, will appear in the next edition of Coca Cola’s “Zero” commercial series that begins airing on Saturday.

The “Wild Summer” commercial will feature Amuro strutting her stuff in front of a background of flames while being blasted by bursts of wind. The singer said the commercial is meant to make viewers feel like they can beat the summer heat.

She was born in Okinawa, and therefore Okinawan. (According to wiki her ancestral makeup is 3/4 Japanese and 1/4 Italian)

Didn't she put a tattoo of her own name on her arm?

She is definitely part Filipino with a dash of Japanese.

The siren sez: You too can feel the "wild" effects of aspartame! Made even more special in the summer heat! Step right up!

Nobody, apart from certain JT posters, talks about her anymore.

  • 0

    alladin

yah, that is because she has become a boring idol that lost her star a very long time ago. So sad.

    Love Amuro. Love her!

Nobody, apart from certain JT posters, talks about her anymore.

Is that why only small, obscure companies like Coca Cola want her for advertising?

No matter whether she is Japanese or Phillipino, she is hot hot hot!!

This article is so short it's hard to dream up snarky comments to make. Amuro looks good though...

I hear before she was famous she used to sing at shopping malls in Okinawa and most people ignored her.

I remember watching her on some after school kids program with my kid back in the early 90's. Her looks have improved threefold.

Wow, the creative guys at Dentsu really strained hard to come up with this concept -- a hot looking celebrity "strutting her stuff in front of a background of flames while being blasted by bursts of wind." How original. Must be the same creative team that writes all the great beer commercials where everyone must smack their lips and gasp "AAAH". This country's advertising is pathetic.

    herefornow:

I'm with you. I've drunk more than several beers in my time, and it"s never made that "glug-glug" noise going down, and I've never had to squeeze my eyes closed and shriek "aaaaaaaaaaah"

But we do need a much bigger picture of Namie Amuro here. Full-body shot.

She is kinda hot but unfortunately Koda Kumi, though not being as hot (especially face), makes videos that are ALOT better like DDD or Cherry girl. Every one of Amuros videos shes just dancing the same way, if she learned from KK's videos she wouldnt have to dance so hard.

I don't actually know the difference between "Okinawan" and "Japanese" -- I didn't realize there was a need for a distinction between the two. I mean, do people from Hokkaido insist on being called "Hokkaidan?"

Anyway, we need bigger pictures of this cutie.

Is Coke still using product placement? now that modern brain science proved that it is a waste of money.

Got the message: Drink Coke, makes you feel cold! Drink Coke Zero, makes you feel like a hero!

No one can come up with a snarky comment from this line? I guess I'm the only one.

Whenever I watch Namie Amuro, I always feel I can beat something.

Her mother is half Phillipino. Making her 1/4 phillipino, making her very nice looking.

Readers, please stay on topic. Amuro’s ethnic background is not relevant to this particular discussion.

Namie Amuro ready to have a 'Wild Summer' this is possibly the defining moment of the 21st century

In my opinion, Okinawa people are japanese, don.t care what kind of history stuff they had or whatever. Okinawa have the best singers, actors...etc and they.re soooo cheerful and nice people, so different from Tokyo or Osaka people. But Amuro Namie changed so much since she did her debut...she looks a different woman, i don.t think her family can recognize her XD.

I may not care for her music, but she surely does work hard.

She never runs out of style. I like how she's always trying to improve her music. I bought her last album....Awsome.

As long as I am in the same commercial then I would be OK with that!! Although I much prefer Koda Kumi as does do better commercials I agree. It's a toss up though I like them both. I also bought Namie's new album which is fantastic. This is making me thirsty, Coke anyone?
