New animated music video 'Transfer' wins fans the world over

You know something’s a hit when people all over the world are taking to their keyboards to express their amazement and tweeting the links like

Created by music group Ongaku Unit and featuring the vocal talents of hugely-popular voice actor and singer Megumi Nakajima, the video, titled “Transfer”, has already found much love abroad, with many claiming that the video is nothing short of “a revolution” and “the future of music videos.”

In terms of plot, the video features little more than a young girl leaving her house and running through her town. But it’s the mix of animation and synchronization of the music that is winning the video so many fans around the globe.

The girl, whom it must be said is wearing some rather fancy underpants, steps out of her home and sprints down the street. Dodging an old lady sprinkling water on the ground (she’s not just being mean - this is a common practice in summer in Japan to cool the air), our heroine bounds forward before launching herself up into the air in a style not reminiscent of animation classic "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time."

Let’s take a quick look at some of the reactions to the video from around the world so far:

“What on earth is this!? It’s awesome!” (U.S.) “I can’t believe how good this is.” (Estonia) “Wow. This is going to be big. No - huge.” (Canada) “Beautiful.” (UK) “I absolutely adore this.” (Norway) “One of the best videos ever made.” (Indonesia) “Haha, this is how every kid in Japan runs to school!” (U.S.)

As well as featuring an enormous variety of artistic styles, the video also contains glimpses of iconic scenes from Japan, including Kaminari-mon (Thunder Gate) in Asakusa, the newly built Skytree tower, and glimpses of Tokyo from different time periods including samurai battles and streets from the much more recent Showa period.

We don’t know how much time went into the production of this video, but the makers deserve all the praise they get.

Maybe they gave the wrong link in the article? The YouTube vid only has over 300K views. That's not even considered viral by today's standards.

Let's take a quick look at some of the reactions to the video from around the world so far:

Yea, I suppose you could cherry pick any comments from any video to show how wonderful it is. How about the highest "thumbs up" comment on YouTube:

... It's cool, and nice looking, but also disappointing....

Just a looped animation with different backgrounds set to the music of some J-Pop. Not sure why this came to the attention of Rocket News as I am sure there are more Japan based appealing videos than this. Unless people start hitting F5 to increase the views to more than the 360k as of now, this video will be one of many that fade into the background of youtube.

This is what the japanese consider a hit the world over? a paltry 360,629 views in a whole month? gangnam style has 550 million views in 3 months. in denial tsk tsk.

I think that's remarkably Japanese. The same dreary thing, repeated over and over again, and a few people who don't matter try to convince themselves it's something unique and magically creative. And with a couple of gratuitous shots of a schoolgirl's knickers.

True, how the heck is 300k views a worldwide hit?

lets make this video another "F5" video

The video is really awesome, the music as well. But is it really a hit? I doubt it.

I like anime and music but this looped to a degree that I found irritating. To find a true act that is growing virally have a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Uee_mcxvrw&feature=watch-vrec

It is an Official music video, but be warned it might stick around the dark recesses of your mind.

Back to this post,I do like Megumi Nakajima's voice.

I do like the way the writer made a point of mentioning the girl's panties ..... in a bid to encourage a million lolicon manga-boy's to log on and bump up the viewing figures.

Japan keeps digging its hole to isolate from the rest of the world. It's kinda pity.

It was entertaining, music was fun. Just my opinion but "Love etc." by the Pet Shop Boys was much more interesting to watch and listen to.

Gangnam Style, now THAT is an international sensation. This, not so much.

I don't know about it being the future of music videos. To me it looks very expensive to produce. The makers would have known how much time went into it but don't want prospective clients to know as it might put them off.
