I'd like to see them try to collect 'mandatory donations' overseas, then demand to go into the person's home and see if they have a television or not when they refuse.

24-hour ENGRISH ! Ya gotta love it!

  • blvtzpk at 03:43 PM JST - 2nd February

Takashima insisted that the network was not mere propaganda.

    Gotta love that honesty.

NHK World TV depend on a wide range of facilities

Above is the text of a link on the new NHK site. What will this link on their site take me to?

The broadcast will be temporarily suspended from 1:00 to 5:00 Japan time on February 2nd Monday for routine service and maintenance. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Ah yes - now I see the relevance to the link title.

    Pick up your game NHK!!!

I wonder if hon-basho will be aired live or on tape delay, if at all...

He also said that the television commercials helping finance the network would show aspects of Japan to the world.

I can see it now: "This program brought to you by the good people at Shop Japan."

  • USAkuma at 04:01 PM JST - 2nd February

Yes! Can't wait to see those NHK collection guys try to collect monthly dues from countries around the world.

"NHK. You have a pc or tv, so you must pay us money."

Insert your own explicit response. Maybe the can try to collect from Kim Jong Il.

had a quick look. looks like american news so far. not very japanese at all. not really added a new voice so far. they could do though.

  • taiko666 at 12:20 PM JST - 3rd February

I wonder if what sort of filter they'll put on Japanaese articles. For example, are they going to show comedians doing Obama impressions in blackface? Or impressions of Hilary Clinton with a gigantic gaijin nose? Or will they employ somebody to block the stuff that would make Japan look ridiculous?

taiko666: Got a Slingbox up and running in time for Xmas TV, Cheers for the info.

I would trust NHK less tha a station like Fox to be honest. Their Japanese news service are making Japan look like Utopia compared to the rest of teh world and adverts for Japanese new products, utter crap.

  • magpie at 01:11 PM JST - 3rd February

Living in HK now, we get NHK World Premium adn we pay for this as we get NHK in japanese. They Also have NHK World is the english NHK and that is for feee. To be honest we only watch NHK World Premium as living aborad you appreciate what you use to take for granted, NHK Taiga Dorama and the other NHK documentatires are brilliant (there was really good on sunday with Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi). If I were to watch a English language 24hr news chaneel, I'd rather watch CNN, CNBC and the BBC, which I currently all get and love.

  • uperjer at 08:38 AM JST - 5th February

in other news, people around the world have started a snickering campaign every time they hear 'herro. zis is en-aychi-kay nu-zu.'
