NHK to recommence standard children's TV programs

TOKYO —

NHK has announced that it is to return to its regular national broadcasts of “Watch With Mother” and other television shows aimed at children. The move follows an announcement from NHK in which the company said it believes youngster are being unsettled by watching TV programs about environmental change and tsunami damage. “We are hoping a return to familiar programming will help put children in an everyday frame of
mind.”

The return to standard children’s TV scheduling was initially planned for March 14, three days after the disaster hit Japan. But NHK decided to keep broadcasting earthquake news and survival information around the clock instead.

Over the past few days, NHK said it has been getting calls from parents saying that the news is frightening their children. “If they saw familiar faces from children’s TV shows again, it might help them feel better,” one parent was quoted as saying.

Children’s anime “Shakin!,” among others, is to be broadcast on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

I've always found the 'off'button pretty handy when something that I don't want my daughter to watch comes on TV. I suspect, however, that switching a TV off when there are still people in the house would be unthinkable for the majority of families in developed countries these days.

Samurai Spirit can be interlaced into each TV program with appropriate contents to meet specific audiences - kids, teenagers, young adults, mature adults, seniors. NHK will resume its all-aged programs to make Japanese parents feel relief and happy. Kids are Japan's future. Not all programs and movies are safe and appropriate for children.
