TOKYO —
Actress Norika Fujiwra, 36, this week met Empress Michiko at the annual National Red Cross conference held in Tokyo. Fujiwara, who does PR for the Japan Red Cross and visited Bangladesh in February, gave a presentation on the current situation of that country after it was hit by a cyclone, during the conference.
She said, “I chose show business as a career because I thought I could entertain people and give them some diversion from their everyday life. I also hope that my high profile can help me make the public more aware of the plight of people in countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar. I intend to visit there as often as I can.”
The empress, who is the honorary president of the JRC, said, “Expectations for the Red Cross have been increasing recently. I hope that all of you will do your best and uphold the honorable mission of the organization.”
