NTV announcer Furuichi becomes honorary fire chief for a day
Sachiko Furuichi

TOKYO —

NTV newscaster Sachiko Furuichi, 36, was on duty of a different kind this week when she was appointed honorary fire chief of the Shinanomachi Fire Station of Tokyo for a day.

Furuichi oversaw a fire drill at Nippon TV’s Shinanomachi Building in Tokyo. Her appointment is part of a nationwide fire prevention campaign from March 1-7.

“I got so tense when I put on the uniform,” said Furuichi, “but it is an honor to wear it.”
