NTV's Yukari Nishio voted best female announcer

Nihon Television’s Yukari Nishio has been voted the “best female announcer” in ranking site Oricon Style’s seventh annual poll for that category. She is the first not employed by Fuji Television to take the top spot in the poll’s history.
A 2001 graduate of Tokyo Women’s Christian College, Nishio, 33, hosts a variety of programs on the NTV network, including “Zoom in! Super” and “Sekai Marumie.” In choosing Nishio, poll participants cited her breezy style and solid commentary.
Nishio married a former commercial planner in September and there was some rumor that she would be next in a spate of departures from NTV.
Fuji TV’s Minako Nakano ranked number two. Female respondents said they felt she had grown into a woman since her recent marriage.

Only in a sexist country like Japan do women get put into a special section where rather than the ability to do the job, cuteness puts you at the top. No wonder women are treated as second class citizens. Why not just have a best news announcer section?

To a certain extent I agree with Spudman. Yes, most TV newcasters have an attractiveness quotient. But, how many countries rate their newscasters? Maybe it's just Japan's obsession with ranking everything.

I am relaxed but look at the disparity between the genders in salaries and you should get a bit pee'd off. This society values half of it's population more on the size of it's breasts, eyes lids and ankles than it's intellect and work ethic.

I can watch her report the news all day. Just amazingly gorgeous.
Lots of TV announcers like her move onto bigger and better. Two come to mind: Koike, Yuriko and Renho.
