Why am I not surprised. Two looney moonbat peas in a pod.

Two looney moonbat

Just take it easy. There aren't reasons to be so much irritated. After all, you weren't quilty of Snowden's escape. Under wonderful rule of Barack Obama, it was highly predictable. That is why, in particular, Russians call him 'tovarisch'(comrade).

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

I'm looking forward to the movie.

I heard Oliver Stone speak in Ginowan recently and was very impressed.

Hopefully, the movie will encourage more people to do what Snowden did and blow the whistle on more of the covert, cowardly methods of control of the so-called "Free World." And perhaps one day we will all be able to trust each other again.

8 ( +15 / -7 )

Amen, Bertie!

Time to dismantle the military industrial complex and all the fear, greed and murder it manufactures.

It's all a fabrication that threatens all of humanity - especially its creators - and the planet.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

I may or may not see his film, but at least he is someone who decides to do something and gets it done. Whether I agree with him or not doesn't matter to him and I admire that. He just goes out and gets it done without getting "likes" or "dislikes." We should all question things and look for the truth. Never been a fan of the "my country right or wrong" stance.

I heard him speak twice years ago, I fell asleep both times and can confirm, the man to be a bit off.

Hopefully, Snowden comes back to the states and stands up like a real man, if he is one and face charges and challenges the legal system, if he's found innocent, he should walk, if he's found guilty, then he should spend the rest of his miserable life in jail or at least 50 years in a federal prison 23 hour lockdown and let him reflect on what he did to his country and the men and women that are out in the field. We will NEVER trust each other if we have rouge ego maniacs like Snowden going around thinking they can just break the law at will.

That made absolutely No sense whatsoever....

Oh boy. Stop the presses.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

bass4funk

It appears quite clear the government has broken the law. I, for one, am glad someone brought that to our attention.

Similar to The Pentagon Papers of many years ago.

It's pretty silly to accuse him of not being a 'real man' - one man against the full resources of the US Gov - hardly a level playing field.

Violating the 4th Amendment matters to me.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

We will NEVER trust each other if we have rouge ego maniacs like Snowden

I thought he had a pinkish complexion. Maybe the rouge was a bit to much make-up for the camera.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I heard him speak twice years ago, I fell asleep both times and can confirm, the man to be a bit off.

Now you've made yourself look silly. I think even most of those who disagree with what he says would at least say that he is an engaging and articulate speaker with a lot of thought-provoking opinions. Maybe it all went over your head?

7 ( +10 / -3 )

That made absolutely No sense whatsoever....

Not if one's paradigm is a frightened, all-hating, with us or against us paranoia that eschews all foreign concepts.

Outside that paradigm looking in, we see a parasite fabricating (and feeding on) its host's fear. Fear that sells guns. Fear that sells gated communities. Fear that sells private security services. Fear that incarcerates nearly 1 in every 100 of the citizens in public and private prisons, cynically abandoning to underachievement those communities that provide the fodder to sustain bloated prison and military populations.

With such domestic angst, little wonder the parasite manifests itself externally as the playground bully who wants a share of everyone's candy, and eavesdrop on everything they're doing.

It doesn't have to be that way, @bass4funk.

Confront your fears, my friend, and see them for the baseless voids that they are.

Peace to you, brother.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Does this comment also apply to the NSA and others of the same ilk who have broken the law??? I didn't think so...

8 ( +9 / -1 )

It appears quite clear the government has broken the law. I, for one, am glad someone brought that to our attention.

So that means, you can justify by stealing government secrets, private intel and just hand them off to our enemies and compromise our safeties innocent agents in the field?

Similar to The Pentagon Papers of many years ago.

It's pretty silly to accuse him of not being a 'real man' - one man against the full resources of the US Gov - hardly a level playing field.

I was just stating the obvious facts.

Violating the 4th Amendment matters to me.

Ok, so you don't like the government snooping in on your perhaps dubious mails, but it is Ok is someone's life is compromised for your privacy??? If you have nothing to hide, what are you so scared of?

Now you've made yourself look silly.

Because I Stone is a boring loon? Hardly.

I think even most of those who disagree with what he says would at least say that he is an engaging and articulate speaker with a lot of thought-provoking opinions. Maybe it all went over your head?

I know a lot of people who think the same way, he may be engaging, but you could say the same about Hugo Chavez, although he never made any sense either. What goes over my head is the flock of sheep that obviously have nothing better to do in life than to listen to this nut job, now that definitely goes over, way over my head.

-15 ( +0 / -15 )

The story of a Walter Mitty-esque character who betrayed his country. Can't wait...

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

I have to say that the underlying premise and story sound like a dull basisi for a movie. stone will no doubt inject elements of "drama" (fantasy??) to spice it up. Benedict Cumberbatch to play Snowden?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I'll definitely watch it. I hope he adds some background context with some of the other NSA whistle blowers who tried to blow the whistle using the law only to have their lives, reputation and future destroyed by these war mongering, spying, constitution shredding scum.

Russell D. Tice, an NSA whistle blower would, IMO, make for more compelling story. He still lives in the states but his life is in shambles and is being constantly harassed and even threatened. It's just PURE fantasy for anyone to say that any Fed. whistle blower should use the legal system if they want to blow the whistle. PURE fantasy!! Anyone who would say that is not very we'll read or just a government monkey dancing to any tune it plays for them.

Here's Tice's response when asked if he could understand what Snowden did what he did:

Oh, absolutely. I learned the hard way, you cannot trust any of the internal supposed mechanisms that are there for oversight. The chain of command, the IG [Inspector General]'s office, even at the DOD IG I found was basically trying to put a knife in my back.

The Whistleblower Protection Act does not apply to the intelligence community. They're exempt from it. And most people in the intelligence community, they don't realize that. So, you can't even go to the Office of Special Counsel because they're exempt from that, too, and the merit system protection board.

So even if you use the whistleblower - intelligence community Whistleblower Protection Act, the only thing that gives you is the right to go to Congress. It doesn't - it doesn't have any teeth there to protect you against retribution from the agency that you're reporting abuse on.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

all these Snowden haters, when all he did is expose the illegal doings of the US Gov, spying on allies, spying on its own citizens etc etc. if there where no whistleblowers corrupt Govs could do whatever they want whenever they wanted.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Oh lord, they just want to make a quick buck. No way in hell am I going to waste time on this garbage. It's like going to see that movie of the seals that took out OBL. Someone wants to make money off of someone elses life. Only things I watch pertaining to these "true story" situations is an actual documentary. The rest is just movie industry BS.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I'll watch it, when it gets BOOTLEGGED, by these chinese he went to have a " Film Festival " with.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Bass4funk,

So that means, you can justify by stealing government secrets, private intel and just hand them off to our enemies

So, you consider the free press our . . . . enemy? Interesting.

and compromise our safeties innocent agents in the field?

That made absolutely no sense whatsoever....

Ok, so you don't like the government snooping in on your perhaps dubious mails, but it is Ok is someone's life is compromised for your privacy???

Yes. The members of our domestic police force, coast guard, and U.S military put themselves in harm's way on a daily basis precisely to defend the U.S. constitution and protect our 4th Amendment right to protection againsty illegal search and seizure. Why you would think putting one's life one the line to defend the constitution deserves sarcasm and ridicule is baffling, particulalry considering how shrill you can be defending the U.S. military's exploits in other countries.

If you have nothing to hide, what are you so scared of?

This sentiment is so utterly offensive as to defy reason. That you can call yourself an American and espouse this garbage is equally insane.

Habeas corpus? The Bill of Rights? The 4th Amendment? Do any of these ring a bell in that hyper-patriotic mind of yours? It doesn't matter a damned whit whether a person has something to hide or not. The constitution offers blanket protection from the government us against unreasonable searches and seizure, which is precisely what NSA wiretaps are: unreasonable violations of privacy.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Perhaps Mike Myers could make a version too.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Even better, maybe they can do a Team America World Police version. i think telling this story through the medium of puppets would be too apt.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I wouldnt write Stone off completely, you got to remember he is a Vietnam vet, and all that comes with that. He went through allot of hell in Nam, Im sure it made an impression on him.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"all these Snowden haters, when all he did is expose the illegal doings of the US Gov, spying on allies, spying on its own citizens etc etc"

How about this etc - he gave heads-up to al-Qaida and other terrorist groups concerning U.S. intelligence gathering, and that is why the Obama administration wants him extradited and put on trial.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Both films(if they ever get made) will be worth a viewing, though I think Stone got the short end of the stick with Harding's book.

State-lemmings hate Snowden. The STATE is the enemy of Liberty.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

all these Snowden haters, when all he did is expose the illegal doings of the US Gov, spying on allies, spying on its own citizens etc etc. if there where no whistleblowers corrupt Govs could do whatever they want whenever they wanted.

If that were all that he did. This is what boggles me about this guy. What do you have to hide? I on the other hand, have a relative that is in one of these government organizations and is out in the field and No thanks to Snowden, his family and all of us are very worried, don't know what he does, it's confidential, but Snowden's vile act and the way he did it put a lot of lives in jeopardy. But his life is not as important as your right to privacy? Give me a break!

I just hope is Stone makes this movie, if he really wants to be accurate, which he usually never is when it comes to history, then hopefully, he will include the testimonies and complaints and recording of his fellow soldiers instead of the usual U.S. bashing that he does. But knowing Stone, truth and historical correctness is not one of his best forte.

So, you consider the free press our . . . . enemy? Interesting.

NO, just the 99% of the liberal one-sided media.

and compromise our safeties innocent agents in the field?

That made absolutely no sense whatsoever....

Because you don't have any family members working in the field, that's why.

Like I said, what do you have to hide? Hmmm....

If you have nothing to hide, what are you so scared of?

This sentiment is so utterly offensive as to defy reason. That you can call yourself an American and espouse this garbage is equally insane.

Right back at you.

Here we go and so now you want to morph the argument to suit your irrationality. Why is it, you guys run constantly back and take the constitution in a complete liberal sense. Again, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about. never have worried and never will. if you do, well......

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

Is Snowden a traitor or a hero? Maybe he's both. What is ironic is that 2 of the countries, China and Russia, which he escaped to as safe havens would have had him executed long before now had he been one of their own citizens.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I on the other hand, have a relative that is in one of these government organizations and is out in the field and No thanks to Snowden, his family and all of us are very worried, don't know what he does, it's confidential, but Snowden's vile act and the way he did it put a lot of lives in jeopardy. @bass4funk, you've probably posted enough personal details on JT alone to 'out' this relative of yours. Surely there can't be too many Americans living where you told us you live with the hobby your handle alludes to and chronologically detailed career history that you've shared?

8 ( +8 / -0 )

you've probably posted enough personal details on JT alone to 'out' this relative of yours. Surely there can't be too many Americans living where you told us you live with the hobby your handle alludes to and chronologically detailed career history that you've shared?

Hardly. I never told you his exact details, nor do you know his name, location, history of his line of work, nationality or race. I was just stating the facts and how his grossly negligent actions have put people in harms way. Also, it goes to show you, you're more interested in making that childish comment, but then you take the focus off of the culprit and that's Snowden. But as usual, I'm not surprised, not one bit.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

If you have nothing to hide, what are you so scared of?

People who say things like this. That's what I'm scared of. It is the surest road to tryanny.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

'Hardly. I never told you his exact details, nor do you know his name, location, history of his line of work, nationality or race.'

Bass, you've given us pretty detailed information about your swashbuckling career as an internationally travelled journalist with details of the companies you've worked for. I think those who were interested wouldn't find it difficult to identify you and your relatives. Oh, you also told us the gender. Extremely careless, bordering on unpatriotic.

Oliver Stone to write, direct Edward Snowden film

Flop came to mind when I read that line.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Amazing to see the two or three posters who always push the official government line being good robots/sheep and vomiting it out again.

Hook, line and sinker!

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Bertie...you absolutely right. What they dont understand is even if snowden does come back to US to face the music he will never receive a fair trial. It will never be publicized. There are security issues and will never be available to the general public. Most likely if he came back he would be quickly sentenced and the public would be fed another lie. Not to mention he would simply disappear...no one would ever mention him again.

He's doing us a public service by staying in Russia and continuing to release information to the media. Apparently there is a lot more to come and this new information will be far more embarassing to the US govt.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

you're more interested in making that childish comment

Guess I have to admit defeat, then.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Amazing to see the two or three posters who always push the official government line being good robots/sheep and vomiting it out again.

Hmmm, maybe the 3 posters can smell throught the BS of Stone and Snowden and see them for what they really are, liars, over exaggerates, selfish ego maniacs that feed off their own deep rooted inferiority complex and the people that follow them are also enjoying the sweetness of the laced Kool-aid.

Hook, line and sinker! The mother of all catches!

Guess I have to admit defeat, then.

Now you made some sense

Whose talking about politics?

Out of the last 10 movies Stone has directed only 3 were worth the popcorn and yes I have watch a whole bunch of his movies.

Savages, Alexander, Wall Street 2, Any Given Sunday, U-Turn, Heaven and Earth? How about the butcher job he did on Natural Born Killers? He took a darned good script and turned it into a psychedelic trip into his own mind.

Come on, they could have gotten a much better director and screen writer to do the film.

For screenplay how about Tony Gilroy, Eric Roth, Mark Boal? As for a Director how about Kathryn Bigelow, Scorsese, David Fincher, Steven Soderbergh or Ben Affleck?

The story needs to be told, but it should be told by fresh minds like the folks above.

Come on folks, stop trying to make everything into a political battle.

@b4f

Sorry for my over-subtle response to the digital equivalent of two fingers shoved in ears, running around the playground singing "blah-de-blah-de-blah."

When did Snowden and Stone lie? Some examples please.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Bass...how exactly can you see through their "bs". Are you psychic? Were you there when any of this happened? Do you think spying on your citizens and alies illegaly is justified by slapping a bs "national security label" on it. The US government broke the law, and betrayed the constitution they have sworn to uphold. Justify that.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Hmmm, maybe the 3 posters can smell through the BS of Stone and Snowden and see them for what they really are, liars

As I recall, you have called Russia and China "enemies" of the USA. There are people both from China and Russia here. Yet they did not call the USA as "the enemy of China and Russia". You have already done it. And after that you're trying to impose your viewpoint to representatives of "enemy states", huh? Nice tactics. Then your viewpoint will be seen as "biased" anyway. Besides, Snowden escaped to Russia and the US government accused him of espionage. Spy steals true secrets. As a native speaker, could you draw a line between a spy and a liar ? I bet, you can. So, why you keep calling him "liar", I wonder?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@sense

Sorry for my over-subtle response to the digital equivalent of two fingers shoved in ears, running around the playground singing "blah-de-blah-de-blah."

That's ok, at least you had physical eyes to view my text. That's more than enough for me.

When did Snowden and Stone lie? Some examples please.

Let me ask you a question with a question, what movie did Oliver Stone make that was totally and historically and factually accurate?

As for Snowden, he lied by violating his oath and compromising U.S. Security and giving all of our intel to China and Russia. Snowden had many options, but this flower smelling thug took it upon himself thinking that what he was doing was for the American people. Snowden doesn't care about his country, Snowden cares about Snowden ONLY!

@tokyo

how exactly can you see through their "bs". Are you psychic?

No, but I worked for most of my adult life in L.A. And when you grow up in CA and work in Hollywood, you get a very good inkling of which celebs are credible and which are full of it. Stone is one of them and you don't need to be psychic, just listen to these guys ramble and you'll know almost instantly.

Were you there when any of this happened? Do you think spying on your citizens and alies illegaly is justified by slapping a bs "national security label" on it. The US government broke the law, and betrayed the constitution they have sworn to uphold. Justify that.

To ensure and safeguard our civil liberties, that is debatable. Again, why the outrage, you have something to hide?

@sidekick

->As I recall, you have called Russia and China "enemies" of the USA. There are people both from China and Russia here. Yet they did not call the USA as "the enemy of China and Russia". You have already done it.

So you think Russia and China are trustworthy allies of the U.S.? Im not talking about the citizens in general, I have no problem with them. I'm talking about the government, come on now.....

And after that you're trying to impose your viewpoint to representatives of "enemy states", huh?

I'm not trying to impose anything on anyone, just telling you the facts. If you think China and Russia are our friends, you have the right to think so, but I've never seen those countries ever trying to help the U.S. On most occasions. I think you are the one trying to impose on me that Russia and China are our allies and buddies.

Nice tactics. Then your viewpoint will be seen as "biased" anyway.

But yours is not????

Besides, Snowden escaped to Russia and the US government accused him of espionage. Spy steals true secrets. As a native speaker, could you draw a line between a spy and a liar ? I bet, you can.

Why did he escape to Russia? Why did he not lawyer up, set the wheels in motion to go on national and cable TV to all the major networks insular himself with all media, then go public. If he didn't steal anything, there would have been NO reason for him to have fled. Zero! For Snowden there is no line, just how can Snowden benifited from this. He stole these wires, lied saying that this is for America, when it is all about him.

So, why you keep calling him "liar", I wonder?

You do that when someone is usually being dishonest or not telling the truth.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Just 2 examples that quickly came in mind. You government creates enemies everywhere around the World by utterly arrogant and plain stupid attitude to other countries and nations.

Why did he escape to Russia? Why did he not lawyer up, set the wheels in motion

Because he would be killed or imprisoned at the same moment. Russia is the only country that is really able to provide a safe harbour for him.

Here is some great news for those that find Oliver Stone's last 10 movies too silly to watch.

We will have competing Movies to watch.

On one side of this coin

Oliver Stone will be writing and directing the version of events based on the book, The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man. The writer, Luke Harding wasn't an inside man and who never met Snowden and wasn't part of the team that broke his story. But, he did have the help of the Guardian staff.

Now for those that can't wait for this version, you may wish to read this links below.

http://rt.com/news/harding-book-snowden-prisoner-588/

http://www.mediaite.com/online/glenn-greenwald-the-guardian%E2%80%99s-book-on-snowden-is-complete-%E2%80%98bullsht%E2%80%99/

On the other side of this coin will be another movie.

The other movie will be based on Glenn Greenwald's book No Place to Hide. You know, the same Glenn Greenwald that wrote the actual story that exploded onto the world stage. The movie will be produced by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Which to watch, which to watch??? One story based on facts or the other story based on hearsay?!?

This will be like picking between Tombstone and Wyatt Earp. I picked the better of the two, and if you have to ask it was Tombstone.

In the case of a Snowden movie, I'll also pick the better of the two and wait for the release of the Greenwald version of events.

Didn't Russia help you by supporting North route of supplying NATO troops in Afganistan?

Yes. Ok, so realistically in all actuality you really only got example.

Just 2 examples that quickly came in mind. You government creates enemies everywhere around the World by utterly arrogant and plain stupid attitude to other countries and nations.

You think Russia is a loved nation or China, how about Japan? When the U.S. Is taking care of the rest of the worlds problems and countries that call us and ask us for aid, help, firearms, logistical support and other countries can't match and these same countries that you say don't like us, but these same countries always call us for help when the dodo hits the fan. Remember the Kursk? Many Russians wanted the U.S. To help, we had the technology to save those soldiers, but the Russian government said, NO. Now they're dead and why? Because of pride, they didn't want to be rescued by the U.S. And that cost those sailors their lives because of their pride and arrogance. We are still by far the most generous nation.

Because he would be killed or imprisoned at the same moment. Russia is the only country that is really able to provide a safe harbour for him.

Wait a minute! How on Earth do you know that he would've been killed? You don't know that! This is not a James Bond movie. This is exactly how rumors get started. The notoriety Snowden has, with the information he could have gon on Bill O'Reilly one of the highest rated TV programs and a great outlet to make his accusations, being on a big show like that with that kind of exposure, no one would have dared trying to touch him, that would have been suicidal and would have too much scrutiny and suspicion, the fallout would have been to great and obvious. Russia was just an excuse, they don't care an iota about Snowden, they cared about what was on his possession. If I tried to go to Russia and seek political asylum, there is Virtually no chance the Russians would give it to me. The same Russia that locks up people for speaking their mind about Putin or gay rights issue. Yeah, Russia land of the free. Lol

Snowden has performed a valuable service to the entire world in showing the depths America has sunk to. No wonder you're annoyed by him.

That is not the reason. I am annoyed because neither he, nor anyone else has the right to put other peoples lives in danger in order to prove a point. Snowden made his bed and for to complain and whine that he wants to come back to the states and wants presumably and laughable that the charges be dropped is a joke onto itself.
