Story of the world. While point of the Academy Awards is the so-called "boring parts". Without them it is just another weak variety show.

So the show's only going to go for about 10 minutes this year?

That leaves about two or three minutes of lame jokes, then.

Stewie does the Oscars? Much more appealing than the usual PC talking heads!

Here is a suggestion, don't broadcast them at all and just put out a press release of the winners names.

I'd think removing the singing-dancing bits would be good, but it seems they're saving time from other places, for the singing. Acceptance speeches are always too long. And the scripted banter between celebrity presenters falls flat more frequently than it hits.

Let's see... Pre-Oscar red carpet interviews - boring; Bizarre categories such as "Best Supporting Actor in a Recurring Role Based on a Real Person" - boring; Musical interludes - boring; Commercials - boring; Emcee comedy routines - boring. That leaves... (drum roll) ...three awards worth televising: Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Motion Picture. Once you let them thank everybody they REALLY want to thank, you might get a half-hour out of the presentation. Report all the rest of the awards in the next morning's paper.
