Papaya Suzuki shows off sleek new form

TOKYO —

Dancer and “talent” Papaya Suzuki, 43, has released a book documenting his diet success that lost him 30 kilograms. At a release concert for “Debu Deshita” (“I Was a Fatty”) over the weekend in Shinagawa, Suzuki and his “Oyaji Dancers” braved strong winds to entertain the audience with an outdoor show.

Before the signing, Suzuki said of the book, “Think of it as a manual on how to create a healthy body.”

How many kilos would he lose if he got a hair cut?

  • USNinJapan2 at 09:03 PM JST - 8th February

Thinner is healthier I know but a good part of Papaya's image/draw was his portliness. People will miss the 'debu' Papaya...

Actually, with Papaya, you don´t need the quotation marks around the talento.

  • johnnyreb at 10:33 PM JST - 8th February

papaya is one of the few cool talent out there.

Strange, but he is one of the very few tarentos that doesn't get on my nerves. (I feel like strangling the TV when most tarentos appear). I guess this means Papaya will no longer be eating out with his umai pal (was his name Ishizuka?) I saw his partner on TV the other day - still eating large portions with his gut hanging out - a gigantic dorayaki with lashings of cream, and a one-tonne katsudon. Now THAT is one guy heading for a heart attack.

I think this is also a good chance for Papaya to release a 70's disco workout DVD.

Oh Papaya, I'm in love with you. Pity I'm already married. I loved you in the j-drama's, I love your debu :) and your 'fro.

@Pukey2: yeah Ishizuka should follow his pal's steps.

  • ebisen at 09:08 AM JST - 9th February

One of the really talented guys, with something in their heads as well. He's actually quite interesting to watch... I guess it's his intelligence..

@slizzer - LOLs about loosing the afro - you really think it has around 2 kilos?

"Fatty?" Who ever says "I was fatty?" What happened to fat, obese, overweight, or chubby?

  • zurcronium at 03:27 AM JST - 10th February

    Lose the fake tan . . .

  • joji at 12:49 AM JST - 11th February

did anyone anticipate the existence of "tarentos" ...before arrival in Japan?

  • corinnajune at 04:26 PM JST - 12th February

    the afro is amazing :D

    i agree with Noripinhead:

You can be a sleek fatty in the right clothes.

stylish clothes make all the difference. the suit in the included photo, however... kind of sleazy ;P

People will miss the 'debu' Papaya...

don't worry, he'll probably be back- it is highly unlikely for anyone to maintain significant weight loss for more than a few years. no matter how fat you are to begin with, the body perceives 'dieting' (or 'lifestyle change'- same thing different name) as 'starvation', and will fight dirty to put the weight back on.

there was study i read recently that showed that a 140 pound person who has lost 100 pounds to get to that weight must eat much less to maintain that size than someone who has always been at or near that same weight. they may look the same, but their bodies work much differently. interesting stuff.
