Popular cartoon 'Cobra' to be revived as TV animated feature

TOKYO —

The popular comic series “Cobra,” which was first published in 1978, will be revived as a TV animated feature to celebrate its 30th anniversary. A new series of “Cobra” will be released on DVD from Aug 29, to be followed by the start of the “Cobra” TV series.

The comic is an action story about a space pirate named Cobra. More than 30 million copies have been sold so far. “Cobra” was made into an animation film in 1982 and a TV anime series in 1983.

Buichi Terasawa, the author and director, said, “Animation is a good way to keep the original image of the comic. The hand-drawn look is an essential reason for the popularity of Japanese cartoons. Although we use computer graphics, we like to emphasisze the hand-drawn method.”

Yeah I remember Cobra. Blonde guy with a large gun in place of one of his arms. Pretty cool and distinct series if I remember correctly. I also loved Matthew Sweet's video for his song "Girlfriend" which featured Cobra. Great song, excellent video. http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9aWPTCc2r0
