TOKYO —

Rock band Mr Children will perform the theme song for NHK’s Olympic programs. The new song, titled “GIFT,” will be released on July 30.

The official video was filmed at NHK Hall in Shibuya on Monday. Vocalist Kazutoshi Sakurai, 38, said, “The most beautiful sparkling color in the Olympic Games is gold. But I also think there are other colors which are more important and valuable for all the participants.” He said this is what he wants to convey through the song.

  i've been speaking english my whole life and i have no idea what he said

  there are other colors which are more important and valuable

  for me, periwinkle is particularly meaningful

  i look forward to hearing the song played as part of NHK's pep rally
