TOKYO —

Actress Ryoko Shinohara, 35, these days is touting the benefits of House Wellness Foods Corp’s new drink product “C1000 Vitamin Lemon.” Shinohara appears in the new TV commercial for the vitamin drink, which will air from March 16.

Shinohara, who is married to actor Masachika Ichimura, 60, and had a baby last May, said, “My father often drinks C1000 Vitamin Lemon. When I was pregnant and got a cold, he recommended me to take vitamins from this drink.”

Asked about her private life, Shinohara said she has never been so happy.

As I understand it, if you eat all the lemon drops in the stick you get 1000mg, or 1g of vitamin C. The wikipedia entry for vitamin C says that when you take large doses of vitamin C you can get diarrhea and indigestion. But it helps iron absorption, which would be good for women as they tend to be iron deficient (due to menstruation).

Without a proper zoom on those legs it's difficult to appreciate the benefits of that lemon juice. "My father often drinks C1000 Vitamin Lemon." is kinda confusing. talking bout her hubby?

I think this might be a mis-translation. In Japan women often refer to their husband as "papa".

Ayesha, usually when they have kids. And they also call "papa" what we call a sugar daddy in English. but who am I to judge their happiness? I just wanna closer look at the benefits :)

    This is fluff!

Synthetic C, or ascorbic acid, is common food additive. It's often found in candy. Besides the sweeteners, emulsifiers and junk, I think that's all C1000 has going for it (dunno, rose hips listed anyone?). C1000 tastes great but I would never consider it a healthy drink. Besides it's carbonated.

And you can't find C-1000mg supplements in Japan, either. I don't know why. Outside C-1000mg is only found in time-release form, and for a reason. The body can't absorb that much as a single shot, generally. If you've had bright yellow pee after having your electrolyte topped up at the hospital that's the excess C coming out. And I've never experienced that from drinking C1000 Vitamin Lemon.

    It's trash, imho.

Bright yellow pee, as we hear from stipend, is not the vitamin C, unless it has been colored. An excess of vitamin B causes this.
