Duchovny's visit to Japan up in the air

TOKYO —

“X-Files” star David Duchovny is supposed to visit Japan in late October to promote “The X-Files: I Want to Believe,” but distributor 20th Century Fox says it is not sure yet if the visit will go ahead.

The 48-year-old actor checked himself into rehab last month in a bid to control his sex addiction. Ironically, Duchovny portrays a sex-loving author in the raunchy cable show, “Californication.”

20th Century Fox said its office in Tokyo has had inquiries from more than 100 fans inquiring if Duchovny will attend the Japan premiere in late October. It even received a string of paper cranes wishing him well.

“The X-Files: I Want to Believe” opens in Japan on Nov 7.

Charming headline. Utterly charming. Real tabloid stuff, there.

Does this mean that everyone's condition will precede their name in future reports?

"Drug addict Downey flies in to promote new movie." "Bulemic singer Carpenter's album tops charts" "Agoraphobic Basinger to star in movie with ex-husband"

Moderator: The headline has been amended.

Glad i'm not a celeb coming to Japan, i can imagine the headline "Binge drinking TheNewFed comes to Japan". Hee! Hee!

I hope he makes it to Japan. He's one of my favourite sex addicts.

Wonderful tabloid reporting on this one JT. You'll drag over the Mainichi readers with that.

So do we get any more information as to why he might not be travelling to Japan?

He's going to star in the XXX Files!

Are these fans hoping for a 'meet and greet' event?

Despite all the trash talk, I thought it was rather nice of some of his fans to make some paper cranes in hopes of a speedy recovery.

I was a big fan of the X-files when it was on TV, and although I was dissapointed with the first movie, I'm looking forward to this one.

    At least he admits it......kudos!

Saw it online months back. Just like an long version of a tv episode.

Nothing too good to sy about it, rather dissapointing.

Japan. Not the place for a self-avowed sex addict. Or...just the place.

Saw the movie. Kinda creepy. Not bad. Not great. Lots of plot holes.

For a sexually deprived, that's right not depraved, country like Japan, they should be hailing the arrival of Duchovny. BTW, he is a wonderful actor and deserves more than a preposterous label that belittles his accomplishments.

Kano sisters declare manners more important than massive mammaries.

Duchovny's visit to Japan up in the air

    Coincidence?

    I don't think so...

A sex addict is a bon vivant who happens to be married.

He is addicted to porn, right? He is addicted to .... his hand? He likes to have sex with ... someone he loves? His best friend?

Does nobody else see the supposed treatment as a crass publicity stunt to promote a well-reviewed but poorly watched show?

    His knew show Californication rocks.

I found the whole sex addict thing to be bizarre.. but that doesn't make me love the show any less. Sorry, I'm a huge nerd. Anyone know when and where the premiere is?

I have no idea but wonder if he had an affair and blamed it on a 'sex-addiction'...?!

Duchovny should make their the trip, there are lots of girls here who would love to help him with his uh, problem.

Admitting it doesn't make it any more the better for his character. I am an X-Files The Series fan but the movies were crap.

For those that don't know what the original comments were about, JT's initial sensationalist (I think that's a word) headline was "Sex addict Ducovny's visit to Japan up in the air"

    doombird

I think he should go right ahead. Tour the country. And maybe go from city to city helping Japan out with its declining population problem.

    Just sayin'.

what the hell is "sex addiction" anyway? is it really registered as a disease by those loony shrinks? then 99% of the males of the world are sick. and I surely don't wanna any rehabilitation

the "string of paper cranes wishing him well" is priceless

Jesus, for someone with a sex addiction this is the perfect place. I wonder if the fact that he's famous would get him into all those 「外人お断り」places

    soldave

timeon - well it's not universally recognised by scientists, and is not in all of the medical journals, but many cases of it have been reported. There are some good papers and theses about the subject too you could read online to try and understand it.

What brave new world we live in! Sex addiction is now considered a disorder! We're heading straight for the alternate future of Zardoz!
