Shaku, Oizumi pick up 'Best Formalist' awards

TOKYO —

Actress Yumiko Shaku, 30, and actor Yo Oizumi, 35, have been named winners of the “Best Formalist Award 2008.” The annual award is organized by the Japan Formalwear Association which selects celebrities who look good in formal attire.

Shaku, who wore a sexy blue dress, said, “I think women have the advantage of being able to wear wonderful dresses.” Oizumi, who escorted Shaku, said, “I’m so excited because Ms Shaku is sexier than I imagined. Her low-cut dress has a sort of magnetic power because I can’t help looking at it.”

I thought Shaku's dress reminded me of something:

From top to bottom, the dress started off well, but then below the waist, it's as if the designers couldn't decide on a short dress, long dress or the transparency of the material, and so opted for everything. The Formalist award must have come as a surprise for Shaku, considering I've only seen her in casualwear or bikinis.

And the guy, whoever he is, is doing his image no favors with that Charlie Chaplin pose.

People have to realize you can't just put -ist at the end of any word, just as you can't simply put 'the' or ザ in front of any old word.
