Singer Kenji Sawada starts nationwide tour

TOKYO —

Singer Kenji Sawada started a nationwide tour this week. In the tour, to mark his 60th birthday, Sawada sings 32 songs and wears a number of lavish costumes in the nearly 3-hour concert. After his nationwide tour, Sawada will hold special 5-hour concerts in Osaka on Nov 29 and Tokyo on Dec 3.

Sawada said, “When I was 40, I thought 60-year-old people were very old. I was wrong. I can still sing even though I’m a old man. I hope I don’t kick the bucket during a concert.”

Densha & wilbur, Kenji Sawada was in his time bigger than SMAP. He's the post-army Elvis of the prettyboy J-idols.

BTW he had a role in the movie Mishima and was good.

When I first saw him on TV I was blown away. While all the other young male singers were singing sappy love songs and wearing dark businessmen suits (late 70s), Sawada came out dressed in light bulbs and parachutes (real ones - flowing out behind him) and pushing some real rock ballads. With a good voice.

I wish Kyodo's copy-paste service (JT by initials) could copy and paste some information about where his nationwide tour is going to be performing besides Osaka and TokiiiiiiiiiiO. (obscure reference to one of his songs, sorry.)
