Sony Pictures announced plans for an animated “Spider-Man” feature from the “Lego Movie” writing/directing team of Christopher Miller and Phil Lord on Wednesday at CinemaCon.

Why? The live action films not doing the biz?

I guess I'm curious but what's the angle to differentiate it from the live-action ones beyond CGI animation? Traditional cell animation in some specific artistic style like Steve Ditko, John Romita, Gil Kane or-- probably more financially lucrative-- Todd McFarlane might be different enough from the live action ones to justify this. Oh, who am I kidding? Studio execs don't think like that. Money, money, money. Slap Spidey's face on it and it will mint money for them and this way their lead won't age out of the role or balk at a director change or weak script.
