This was a smart decision.

Real strength here (sarcasm).

First of all, SONY caves to whoever it was who cyber-attacked it. And now it's caving to the US.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Sony did not 'cave' to anyone. They made a business decision based on the major theater chains pulling out. Now they have so much hype with this movie, they can't help but make a boat load of money, even with the smaller release.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Meh. I'm over it already.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

This is one way to market your movie. Whip up press hysteria, get Bazza Obama to promote it, and bung a million into a certain numbered bank account in Switzerland, belonging to one Pyongyang Elvis. Storm in a teacup.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

They should have kept it locked away. Looks like a crappy movie anyway.

Since it's okay to release movies about killing living world leaders, I'm waiting for the movie about someone killing Obama. I'm sure there would be on outrage over that...

Great decision by Sony. The major theatre chains that pulled out should be shamed, what a disgrace they are

Glad to see it being shown in some theaters and only hope there is no sudden CNN news of a theater being bombed for showing it.

@BertieWooster Real classy of you to put the US in the same boat as NK. One wonders if you have any scruples at all. As for this movie, I would be there on Christmas day if it wasn't too far away :-( Those who would trade freedom for security deserve neither.

There is no doubt that the US is not as bad as North Korea. But they are also not nearly as far away anymore as they once were. Imprisoning innocent people indefinitely, torturing, torturing innocents, strict monitoring of the populace, huge imbalance between the rich and poor - these are all things that the US is doing.

@Strangerland and those are all false equivalencies you've just found. Congratulations on not being able to tell a dog from a cat.

What are you talking about - I'd have to make an equivalency for it to be able to be false. I simply pointed out a list of things the US is guilty of in recent years.

That's great. When the movie shows and Ponyang goes crazy, the bombs will start falling on Tokyo since Sony is a Japanese company. Why do I have to die because some company wants to make an assertion about freedom of expression for a TRASH movie. I'm going to die for TRASH! Lots of people are going to die for TRASH!

im not sure if trolling but get your FACTS sorted! SONY Pictures is a subsidiary of SONY Japan, a complete different company.

While Sony Pictures is technically part of the Sony empire, it has long been run as an entirely separate U.S. company. .

A news report on American CBS-TV cast doubt on N.Korea as the real perpetrator. An investigator said the hacking trail lead to a former (disgruntled?) Sony employee with insider knowledge about the purloined files.

"only hope there is no sudden CNN news of a theater being bombed for showing it."

Me too.

"Since it's okay to release movies about killing living world leaders, I'm waiting for the movie about someone killing Obama. I'm sure there would be on outrage over that..."

Ahem. Yes, Probie, there sure would be an outrage over that, in fact, I bet most U.S. theaters would not show it.

Austin and Atlanta. It takes time to send movie to each theaters. Special carriage and vehicles. It just cancelled 12/26 release, not movie. Boom so much publicity. Now American will never say Sony Pictures is one of Sony computer maker. A majority even know American movies are made in Culver City, not in Hollywood. Better than publicity stunt. News channels show some scenes that attract American people. Beautiful Korean clothed girls lined up scene, etc while USA Govt ia very busy accusing N Korea. Media are puzzled that Japan hasn't accused N Korea. They don;t know which Korea hate Japan more., This is supposed to be comedy but assassin using real people's name is very distateful. Suppose some studio make movies assassinate Obama, Abe, Korean lady President, Xi, etc. Or Japanese Emper4or, Bfitish King.

@papi, I know Sony US is a subsidiary, but do you think NK is going to see that distinction? I doubt it. NK has bombed SK in the past few years, so don't think bombing Japan is out of the question. They have sent missiles over Japan the past few years, if you watch the news.

When you start to see labor camps, people being executed for having a TV or even a heater, when you have to have a picture frame of the president in every household and a photo pin you need to wear on you everyday or if the president decides to execute you because you have his last name or his wife doesn't like you or if he just immprisons you saying the wrong thing or trying to leave the US, then you can say, the United States is NOT that far from NK.

What are you talking about - I'd have to make an equivalency for it to be able to be false. I simply pointed out a list of things the US is guilty of in recent years.

Actually, you didn't or at least there was a justification for the things that were done, given the circumstances at the time and during war, but in everyday life, not even close.

''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' I believe you need to learn about USA and also Japan before you write strange comment about Japan and USA. Have you been to USA and Japan?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I spent over a decade in the U.S., and I've been in Japan for almost 20 years.

But that's neither here nor there, as I didn't say anything about Japan, and everything I said about the U.S. is things they have admitted themselves. So maybe you should keep your comments relevant to the conversation.

Sony stated that movies will be shown in 300 theaters and people can watch online for 15 dollarrent price. These Sony sories in USA worked better than Infomartial or publicity dstunt/
