Southern All Stars begin 30th anniversary tour in Yokohama

YOKOHAMA —

Pop group Southern All Stars held concerts at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Saturday and Sunday marking their 30th anniversary. About 140,000 fans attended the concerts, organizers said.

Southern All Stars have already announced that they will split in 2009, and their fans have been eagerly anticipating the concerts; on an Internet auction site, a pair of tickets was purchased for 5,508,000 yen, according to the Sports Nippon newspaper.

The group will also hold concerts this coming Saturday and Sunday at the same venue.

Probably auctioned, and bought, by their PR company.

Wahoo!!! I was there at the first concert on Saturday night, probably the only foreigner in the entire stadium.

SAS rock!!!!!! I would put them third only to the Beatles and Elvis for sheer, unadulterated musical enjoyment.

They sold out 280,000 tickets to the 4 concerts in 1 day. Rolling Stones beat that!

Myself and my (Japanese) wife were bopping away to songs she remembers SAS releasing when she was in elementary school a good many years ago.

LOVED it - worth every yen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) :-)

DesertFox - you got ripped - we got two tickets for 16,000 yen.

By the way, SAS's announced split in 2009 is just a marketing ploy - I'd bet every yen of that 5,508,000 yen that the band will be back on track in a few years.

    Kuwata Keisuke for PM!!!!!!!!

yeah, you're right. they'll be touring again and releasing naff summer/xmas singles by 2011. so I guess all the fans got ripped for this 'farewell' tour. I go to concerts in Tokyo every weekend and never pay more than 4000 yen. only greedy 'bands'(businessmen) charge more
