Speedskater Shimizu gets 'speed' divorce from Reiko Takagaki
Entertainment ( 14 )
TOKYO —
Hiroyasu Shimizu, who won the speedskating gold medal at the Nagano Olympics in 1998, and Reiko Takagaki, a popular fashion model who regularly appears in AneCan magazine, divorced on Monday in what media dubbed a “speed” divorce.
Tabloid media said the couple met through the introduction of acquaintances in September, 2006, and they got along right away because Takagaki likes to figure skate. At first, they had a long-distance relationship between Hokkaido, where Shimizu was based, and Tokyo, where Takagaki worked.
They submitted their marriage papers on March 31 last year, and followed that up with a wedding in Hawaii on April 2 and a lavish reception at hotel in Tokyo in July.

Was it because their divorce went through in a very short time, or because the media are really bored at the moment?
6 months seems pretty good for J-celebs.

'Speed' divorce is for the speedskater, but a year and nine months could be beaten for sure.

"a wedding in Hawaii on April 2 and a laviush reception at ( a) hotel in Tokyo in July"
This is what is wrong with Japanese weddings. The reception should be the same day as the wedding, and the honeymoon should start that nite or the next day.
No mention of a honeymoon for this couple, they probably never went on one.

Another sham celeb marriage. Hot humping doesn't always equal a happy and long marriage. Just ask Kim Kassardian?

So if it had been a football player, they'd have used "'ballsy' divorce"? Headline writers obviously need their Christmas break.

They saw the writing on the wall, no kids and took the correct route. I applaud them.

I guess she realized that spead skaters don't have much cash. Ran out after the wedding ceremony. I'm sure she has a lot of rich dudes lining up.
