Take it easy there, tiger. It's a fictional weapon in a fictional movie.

Star Wars meets Game of Thrones...yikes, your Grace!

But hey...no Jar Jar Binks and no Ewoks in the trailer? So far, so good. Keep it comin'...

One thing I do like about the trailer is that director J. J. Abrams clearly appears to have heeded the warning from fans about annoying characters and created a movie that will actually be good for a change after the less-than-stellar (quite literally!) prequel movies.

Ooh, I see we have the official trailer up here now, ha ha

So far no sign of the wookie Chewie ( dang! ). But also no sign of Jar Jar or 3CPO ( yea! )

If JJ Abrams has any sense ( and he obviously does, being as how he did such a bang-up job on the Star Trek reboots ) he'll bring back Chewie!

@Farmboy

Heck, Pirates of the Caribbean was a Disney production, but no Donalds or Mickeys present or accounted for, Sir!

'Really, I hope the new version is good. I really liked the original Star Wars, and I wouldn't like to see it ruined.'

It's tribute to just how good Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back were that people are still hoping for redemption over 30 years after they were released. I actually liked the unintentional(?) comedy of episode 3.

The trailer was enough to get me excited about it. Sure, the new lightsaber is a bit dodgy, but I trust they'll do good things with Abrams at the helm. It looks a lot darker, and I think that's wicked. Such a thrill to see the X-wings, Millenium Falcon, TIE Fighters, and the storm troopers again. Some may be unimpressed by the trailer, but I wonder what it would take to impress them, especially given that each segment in the trailer lasted an average of maybe 1.5 seconds.

Anyway, again, I trust Abrams will do good things -- so long as Disney has given him full creative control. Otherwise we'll no doubt see a bunch of John Carter-like characters popping up, with Jar Jar Binks heading the pack.

Have there ever been an Asian actor in any of the Star Wars movies? None that I can think of, which is odd since Star Wars was inspired by Japanese samurai films. At least put some in walk-on roles. Waiting for the day when Hollywood would put a "token Asian" in it's films, like the current ubiquitous "token black".

The problem with Star Wars was the idea and story plot was good, but George Lucas was just a bad director. He's NOT a Peter Jackson for sure and somebody like him or Abrams could pull off something like this. The last 3 films were ok at best, nothing to brag about, but as everyone says, at least we don't have to worry about seeing or at the very worst hearing Jar Jar Binks annoying voice again. I'm really looking forward to this movie. I think Abrahms will get this right. And if the die hard fans can't deal with it, they can always watch the Lucas made films. But so far, I want to give this new one and new generation a shot, breath new life into the franchise which is really a good thing when you think about it and you want to entertain the next generation of kids as well as adults.

Toshiro Mifune was invited to play the role of Obi Wan.

I eco the sentiment that it's probably a good idea that Lucas is out of the picture, dryer directing is hard to come by, if it wasn't for all the high quality production design and special effects the prequels could have passed for a TV show. The Empire Strikes back, which is usually considered the best entry in the series is also the one that he was the least involved with.

That dude needs to check out "The Old Republic" the only other official Star Wars canon storyline. There are tons of variations of lightsabers in that.

It looks great. I'm just going to pretend the prequel trilogy didn't happen.

The X-wings over the eater there... Mmm.

From what I can tell (and I really can't tell anything from a minute and a half) this seems to be a better movie than episode l and ll. in any case, I'll probably take a gander at it when it comes out. Why the hell not?
