"Hey, mom. I want to introduce you my new boyfriend. He's is the Army. A very nice boy..."

Having a few interviews does not make things true across the board. Those numbers do not match the general population, so I cannot believe this guy.

Of course they do not match the general population, that is why its a problem. The sexual assault rate in the US military has been confirmed many times at this high level, this is not new at all.
The fact is that a big chunk of US recruits have criminal histories, mostly drugs and petty crime. Again, these are pentagon numbers. So you throw those types in with women and you get this huge problem. Asians in the US military are routinely killed by fellow soldiers, this was a big story just last month. Sexism and racism often go together.
Lets face it, thanks to bush and his failed wars the US military is now a cesspool and it needs to be drained.

But judging from the relentless anti Americanism in your posts, before Bush you would have blamed any misconduct on Bush Sr or on Reagan. I mean, we don't even need to see those posts to know it.

Holly wood likes to think they are all edgy and transgressive and "pushing the envelope" on issues like this . The very last place they will ever shine a light on though is the industry itself. You can be sure the same abuses that occur in the military occur in the studio system, only far more frequently and over greater lengths of time. These were the people who defended and even cheered Roman Polanski. I am not excusing or condoning abuse in the military or anywhere else but Hollywood cherry picks the easiest targets they can - the military, the church and collegiate sports (male, that is).

There is the millitary and there is the casting couch, is there much difference?

Speaking as an ex-sailor, I know this guy is "full of it" just from one quote:
Even when I was in back in the late 70's/early 80's, the navy was putting out the word that this kind of thing would not be tolerated. This guy's "they have done nothing about it" comment is pure B.S. designed to promote his latest "shock" film.

But this article specifically addresses rape, and seems to be concentrating solely on the Army. The U.S. Army classifies rape as a "Major Misconduct Offense". The "Manual for Courts-Martial United States" http://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/pdf/mcm.pdf lists the following maximum punishment for someone convicted of rape:
This is a crime that can receive the death penalty. It doesn't seem like the military is ignoring it.

The Michael Moore of the military. There are many very fine American soldiers an sadly some bad ones. I suspect this "sexual aggression" in the majority of cases is nothing like rape, and to suggest otherwise is insulting and harmful to genuine rape victims whose traumas are not being taken seriously because people like this are using shock factors to make a name for themselves

Why do you think females join the military? I think it is a psychological reason. They know the risks and the statistics and yet they still join. Why? Because for some females it is a fantasy.

(Sigh) Just another variation on the "They were ASKING for it!" pseudo-defense of sexual misconduct. Women join the military for many reasons and none of them involve fantasies. Maybe their family has a history of military service. Maybe they feel that the military is the type of structured lifestyle they could flourish in. Maybe they just love shooting guns and lobbing grenades. Maybe they see military service as a way to get/finish a college degree that they couldn't afford while working at McDonalds.
Please keep your own fantasies to yourself.

I've been in the military, so you don't really know what you are talking about. First, most military families don't send their daughters there because they know what it is like. Second, your ridiculous ideas about how they join because >they love shooting and lobbing grenades< is insulting to those women who are risking their lives in combat. If you don't know what you are talking about, then don't post such replies.

"one in three female U.S. soldiers is a victim of sexual aggression in the military"
"sexual aggression" is pretty vague guys...how are they defining it? A sexist comment could be considered "sexual aggression", so this "one in three" number means nothing.

You'd need to correct for age. You can't compare a high-risk age group to the overall population. Also, as Mig noted, you need a non-slippery definition of sexual aggression.
No-one can deny that sexual violence is a big issue in the miliary, but a more balanced view might do more service to the problem.
